Research On The Impact Of Chinese Manufacturing Industry Agglomeration On Environmental Pollution

Since the reform and opening up,the rapid development of manufacturing industry has made great contributions to the economic and social progress of our country.As an universal phenomenon of economic development,agglomeration plays an important role in promoting economic development and technological innovation.With the gradual improvement of market mechanism and the quickening of the mobility of production factors and resources,the agglomeration economy,which is represented by industrial clusters,is becoming an important force to promote the economic development of our country.However,at the same time,the problem of environmental pollution in China is becoming more and more serious.Especially in recent years,nearly half of China's regions are affected by haze weather,which seems to indicate that the more developed the industry,the more serious the pollution.That is,the higher the concentration of manufacturing industry,the more serious the problem of environmental pollution.Therefore,it is necessary to study the relationship between manufacturing agglomeration and environmental pollution in order to clarify the relationship between manufacturing agglomeration and environmental pollution.Then we can provide suggestions for the coordinated development of economic development and environmental protection through industrial agglomeration in various regions of China.This article constructs panel threshold models from the perspective of the difference of manufacturing agglomeration mode,based on the panel data of 30 provinces and cities(except Tibet,Hong Kong,Macao and Taiwan)from 2006 to 2015.This article makes empirical analyses of the effect of specialization of manufacturing industry on environmental pollution and the influence of diversification agglomeration on environmental pollution,and provides suggestions for implementing industrial policies in accordance with local conditions.Firstly,this paper summarizes the relevant literatures and materials,probes into the mechanisms of professional agglomeration and diversified agglomeration on environmental pollution,and puts forward the research hypothesis.Secondly,this paper measures and analyzes the specialization index and diversification agglomeration index of manufacturing industry in China,and measures the environmental pollution index of various regions in China.Thirdly,the impact of specialized agglomeration and diversified agglomeration on environmental pollution is empirically analyzed by the panel linear model.And using panel threshold models,this paper empirically analyzes the effect of manufacturing industry specialized agglomeration on environmental pollution,wastewater pollution and waste gas pollution,and the effect of manufacturing diversification agglomeration on environmental pollution,wastewater pollution and waste gas pollution.And by adding the nationalization rate variable in the models,the robustness test is carried out.Finally,according to the conclusion of this paper,the corresponding countermeasures and suggestions are put forward.The main conclusions of this paper are summarized as follows:(1)The panel linear regression model shows that specialized agglomeration has little effect on environmental pollution,while diversification agglomeration alleviates environmental pollution.Therefore,the linear model sugests that we could develop diversification agglomeration for achieving the purpose of energy saving and emission reduction.(2)The relationship between professional agglomeration and environmental pollution in China's manufacturing industry is N-type relationship.When the degree of specialization is low,with the increase of specialized agglomeration,the degree of environmental pollution is aggravated.When the first critical value exceeds the first level,the relationship between specialized agglomeration and environmental pollution is a negative correlation and when the second critical value is exceeded,specialized agglomeration inhibits the emission of environmental pollutants.There is a nonlinear relationship between specialized agglomeration of manufacturing industry and wastewater pollution.When the degree of specialization is more than the critical value,there is a negative correlation between professional agglomeration and wastewater discharge.The relationship between specialized agglomeration of manufacturing industry and exhaust gas pollution is inversely U-shaped.With the increase of specialized concentration degree,the influence of specialized agglomeration on industrial exhaust gas is in turn,promoting industrial waste gas emission and deepening the promotion effect on industrial waste gas emission,restraining the emission of industrial waste gas.(3)The influence of diversified agglomeration of manufacturing industry on comprehensive environmental pollution is nonlinear.When the degree of diversification is low,the effect of diversification agglomeration on environmental pollution is not significant.When the concentration exceeds the critical value,diversification agglomeration exerts positive environmental externality and restrains the emission of pollutants.The relationship between diversification agglomeration and wastewater pollution is inversely U-shaped.With the increase of diversification concentration,diversification agglomeration promotes the discharge of industrial wastewater,and when the critical value exceeds the critical value,the discharge of wastewater is restrained.There is a nonlinear relationship between diversification agglomeration and industrial exhaust gas.When the concentration of diversification is less than the critical value,diversification agglomeration promotes the increase of industrial exhaust gas emissions,and when the concentration exceeds the critical value,the effect of diversification agglomeration on industrial exhaust emission is not significant.At last,according to the empirical conclusions,this paper puts forward the corresponding countermeasures and suggestions.Governments should develop different industrial agglomeration models according to local conditions.When formulating industrial development policy,the regional government should choose the agglomeration area or diversification based on the characteristics of regional development.Each region should cooperate with each other to jointly govern the environmental problems.Through increasing investment in R & D,we could improve the ability of scientific and technological innovation.And finally every region could achieve the economic development and environmental protection coordination of the ?win-win? situation in which economic development and environmental protection are coordinated.
