Abstract/Summary:
The object of this thesis is the Miao nationality in China and the most characteristic silver headdress of the Miao is chosen for conducting research in order to express the cultural characteristics of the Miao vividly and a comparative research of silver headdress of the Miao between Wenshan Zhuang and Miao Autonomous Prefecture in Yunnan province and Kaili in Guizhou province is conducted for a specific description of characteristics of the silver headdress and the causes behind them.Wenshan and Kaili have similar cultural origins in that the Miao in the two regions belong to the same cultural matrix.Moreover,the Miao is a nationality with a thou sand-year-old history of migration.A culture must be adapted to the environment during its development and it changes according to the living habits,material conditions,and the relationship between different cultures and nationalities.At first,the thesis describes the social life and costume culture of the Miao.Then it expounds the basic characteristics of the Miao’s silver headdress in Wenshan and Kaili.And after,the core of the thesis,artistic features of the silver headdress of the Miao in Wenshan and Kaili are compared and based on the basic characteristics and artistic features,an analysis of the silver headdress in the two regions from an artistic perspective is made to find out the similarities and differences and analyze thoroughly the history and culture behind those similarities and differences in order to reflect the law of cultural vicissitude of the Miao in Wenshan and Kaili during their migration and the relationship between the places where there is only the Miao living and those where a lot of nationalities live together after the Miao’s migration,which shows functions of their costumes,customs and changes in the migration of the Miao in Wenshan and Kaili.In addition.the current situation of ethnic handicrafts is analyzed so as to make ethnic handicrafts develop in a sound and suitable way in the contemporary society.finally is the conclusion of this thesis,in which the cultural connotation and aesthetic characteristics of the Miao are revealed for a thorough appreciation of the charm of the national folk art.What’s more,attention is paid to the cultural traditions,the activation of cultural values,and the exploration of ethnic characteristics.It is a trend of the current research to seek a sound path for ethnic handicrafts’ development in the 21st century.
