Species with extremely small populations refer to wild species of plants and animals that are invaded by human activities during long-term intrusion by habitats, resulting in scattered or narrow distribution areas, declining populations, and extremely small numbers of individuals. In the early 21 st century,China began to study the protection of species with extremely small populations and formulated corresponding protection plans. Many wild animals and plants that are included in species with extremely small populations are endemic to China, with unique potential, survival and scientific research values. They are an important part of China’s implementation of sustainable development and construction of ecological civilization. At present, the protection of species with extremely small populations in China is facing problems such as limitations of legislative concepts, defects in system design, and ineffective management and protection measures. These problems have made it difficult for species with extremely small populations to recover and develop their populations, and the genetic stability within the population has been declining and is dying. Some effective methods of species conservation in China can provide useful protection for the protection of current species with extremely small populations.According to the actual situation of species with extremely small populations, combined with existing successful experience in species conservation, comprehensive analysis and case study results, from reforming legislative concepts, implementing priority protection, improving existing legal protection measures, and enacting the Endangered Species Protection Act.In terms of improving the protection content of China’s species with extremely small populations.
