Due to the rapid development of the society, the pace of life is accelerating rapidly.Direct communication and association between people is relatively reduced. For young single people, the companionship of a pet can relieve loneliness to some extent and fill the emotional void.In recent years, the proportion of empty-nest young people who keep pets has increased greatly, and the "pet economy" shows considerable growth trend. As a necessity in pet supplies, the automatic pet feeder solves the feeding problem of pet owners when they are on business or leave for a period of time. The design and research of existing intelligent pet feeders in the market are mostly from the perspective of their shapes or structures, and have a single category and slow iteration. Most of the products focus on studying the needs of pet owners and superimpose various functions on the products, but neglect that pets are also one of the main users of the products. With the increasing demand for intelligent products, users have put forward higher requirements for pet products.People are not only satisfied with the functional needs of feeders, but also expect them to meet their inner spiritual and emotional needs.Through the study of physiology, design psychology, animal behavior, economics and other relevant theories, this paper summarizes the corresponding design strategies,in order to provide some guidance and reference for the design of intelligent pet feeder.First of all, through consulting and analyzing the literature related to emotional needs, the results and current situation of relevant research are clarified.Secondly, based on the emotional design theory, psychological measurement tools are used to integrate users’ emotional needs from instinct level, behavior level and reflection level.Thirdly,a quantitative analysis is made of the factors affecting the design of pet feeders. The differences in the needs of pets and their owners for intelligent feeders are obtained by combining user interviews, field research, behavioral observation and case analysis.Take the pet cat and its owner as the design object and output the design direction.Next, the design method of intelligent pet feeders guided by emotional design theory is summarized and applied to the design practice of intelligent pet feeders. Finally, this thesis adopts the form of quantitative analysis to conduct user satisfaction survey to objectively verify whether the emotional needs of the product have been met.
