From Controlling Nature To Respecting Nature

Since the rapid development of science and technology since the mid-twentieth century,humans' ability to influence nature has also increased,becoming a powerful force that can match nature.The improper use of this force and the loss of control have caused a series of undesirable consequences,which have caused extremely complicated social and ecological problems.The relationship between man and nature,and between people is like a thin ice.It is against this background that William Lesis began to criticize the contemporary capitalist society in view of the contradictory reality of the relationship between man and nature,starting from the concept of controlling nature and combining the ecological plight of contemporary reality.It also focuses on reconstructing a " easy-to-survive society " from ethical and institutional construction.Lesis advocates that to reveal the inherent contradictions that control the concept of nature,we must explore the evolution of its historical roots.Therefore,he traced his eyes to the three periods of ancient myths and legends,the creation of Christian God,and the development of capitalism since the 17 th century.Look for the historical evolution and consequences of controlling the concept of nature.On this basis,Lesis pointed out that the use of science and technology is the main way to control nature,and believes that the purpose of controlling nature is to satisfy the unlimited desires of people.The crisis of the capitalist system is the essence of ecological crisis,and the essence of controlling nature is controlling people.Furthermore,Lesis proposed to restrict people's desires from ethics and reconstruct a new "easy-to-survive society" to achieve harmony between man and nature.This article traces Lesis' s logical footsteps,focusing on analyzing the theoretical context of the relationship between man and nature in Rice's The Domination of Nature and The Limits To Satisfaction,and believes that the problems in the relationship between man and nature have coherent.Starting from clarifying the historical logic of the ideology of controlling nature,revealing that the essence of controlling nature is the essence of controlling people.And rationally criticize the satisfaction,demand and consumption of alienation,and clarify that the essential connotation of the dilemma of the relationship between man and nature is that nature controls mankind through a small number of people.Finally,through the ethical reflection of man and nature and the rational application of science and technology,while respecting the needs of both man and nature,a " easy-to-survive society " is established to achieve the purpose of liberating nature and respecting nature.It also proposes the content of the inheritance and development of Orthodox Marxism and Frankfurt School of Ecological Thought in Lesis Theory,as well as the benefits of Lesis Theory for the construction of ecological civilization in China,and also criticizes the deficiencies in Lesis Theory.The current domestic academic research on William Lesis mainly focuses on "controlling nature" or "alienated consumption",and studies the content and solutions of its dilemmas,mainly to conduct some decentralized research.This article attempts to combine the theoretical views of the two books by layering,focusing on the theory of combing the relationship between man and nature.Synthesize the internal logic of "liberating nature" and "respecting nature" to maximize the picture of the relationship between man and nature in William Lesis' s ecological theory.
