Polarization prism is the basis of modern optical information technology development and industrialization of passive components,is the key components of laser applications and modulation technology,it is widely used in optical fiber communication,optical information processing,polarization interference imaging and precision optical remote sensing systems etc.There are many types of polarizing prisms,mainly divided into two categories:one is the polarizing prism,such as Glan·Taylor prism,Glan·Foucault prism,etc.;one is polarization splitting prism,for example Rochon prism,Wollaston prism and so on.Most polarization prisms are made of calcite crystals,and calcite crystals as natural resource are running out,so looking for other optical materials to replace or partially replace the calcite crystal is particularly necessary.In this paper,glass-calcite composite prism developed mainly around the material selection,design,theoretical arithmetic,processing and testing of the five aspects of the work.Select material is select the optical glass that can matching the main refractive of the calcite crystal;Design is to design the structure of the compound prism according to the functions we want to achieve,including the design of the structural angle,the design of the bonding form between the prisms and so on;Theoretical arithmetic is by theoretical analysis to analyze whether the composite prism can meet the requirements of the theory,and the difference in performance between it and the traditional calcite prism;Processing and experimental testing is to made an experimental sample after the design of prism is completed,and then test its parameters such as splitting angle,transmittance and extinction ratio,so as to illustrate the advantages and disadvantages of the composite prism by experimental data.Theoretical and experimental results:1,the half field angle of the glass-calcite composite Rochon prism is to be 4?46',and the splitting angle was calculated to be 7?35';the transmissivity of the glass-calcite composite prism is over 50%in the range of test bands and can reach about 80%in the visible and near infrared wavelengths;the extinction ratio of the composite prism is better than 10-4,and the extinction ratio can reach 10-5 in the visible wavelengths,the extinction ratio performance than pure calcite crystal prism is more remarkable;and the composite prism can also be used in reverse,the field angle of the prism is to be 8?4',and the deviation angle of e light is 8'when it was used in reverse,in line with international standards for the development of the beam off angle 10'.2,the deviation of splitting angle of the calcite-glass composite 90?beam splitter and right angle is small,the light intensity splitting ratio of e light and o light is about 1:1;in the wavelength range of 300 nm1300 nm,the right angle beam splitting error is less than 1.20?,the deviation of light intensity splitting ratio and 1is less than 0.003 in the wavelength range of 586 nm1300 nm,the prism has a wide light spectrum scope of application.In summary,design of glass-calcite composite prism is feasible,not only save calcite crystal material,reducing the fabricating cost of prism,but also the performance of the traditional calcite prism can be maintained,it can be used with other devices to modulate and beam splitting,the composite prism will have great application in the future scientific research and production.The main innovations of this article are:design of the glass-calcite composite Rochon prism and the calcite-glass composite 90?beam splitter;in addition to the theory has carried on the detailed analysis of the two prism,also produced the test samples of the glass-calcite composite polarization beam splitter,experimental optical path is designed to test the performance of polarization beam splitting,and the advantages of the compound prisms relative to the traditional calcite prisms are pointed out.
