Research On The Layout Planning Of Urban Passenger Transport Stations

In recent years,the national road network and infrastructure have developed significantly.Both cargo and passenger transport have demonstrated a rising trend.Being an important part of the national transport system,passenger transport has long been the key area of development and receiving tremendous national support.How to improve the overall satisfaction level of the passengers has become an urgent issue.Passenger transport consists of chartered transport and route transport.Bus terminal is one of the important links of chartered transport.Bus terminal is the place of interaction between transport service provider and passengers.It is where station service is provided.It is also the vessel for the development and trial of road transport market.After the founding of the People Republic of China,the development of bus terminal has been through several phases.Both the hardware and software have been updated to cope with the requirement of different times.The newly built bus terminals have to meet the new requirements and standards while the early ones also face challenges and trials.This article focuses on the early established bus terminals which do not have renovation plans.The suggestions from this article come from field visits,data comparison and summarise of previous research.Early established bus terminals share several common features:central location,big terminal,small parking area,limited overall space,simple supporting facility etc.Although the introduction of the new bus terminal classification system brought more facilities,the overall layout is still ill-organised.The case study(Hongqiao bus terminal)included in this article has another special feature:congested surrounding area.This article provides a mathematic estimate of the future volume of passengers of Hongqiao bus terminal based on data gathered from field visits and previous research.Based on research results and current situation,this article provides a bold plan regarding the future layout of the bus terminal.It also presents a comprehensive conceptual design of the bus terminal through graphic software.The design was further optimised after investigating the advantages and disadvantages of different plans.It also borrows valuable experience from both domestic and overseas bus terminals.Several practical suggestions on established bus terminals were included in this article to improve the efficiency and service delivery of passenger transport with safety as the priority.
