With the rapid development of the Internet and big data technology,product modularization has received widespread attention from many scholars and entrepreneurs.Based on Chinese manufacturing companies,this article aims to explore the impact of product modularization on competitive advantage.First,the author sorted out the existing research results such as product modularization,manufacturing flexibility and competitive advantage.Secondly,the author has constructed a theoretical model in which product modularity affects a company's competitive advantage through manufacturing flexibility.The author divides product modularization into two dimensions: modular design and modular production.And,the author divides the competitive advantage into two dimensions: cost advantage and differentiated advantage.Finally,the author examines the impact of modular design and modular production on the cost advantages and differentiated advantages.And,the author examines the intermediary effect of manufacturing flexibility.The author used SPSS and AMOS analysis software to perform hierarchical regression analysis and structural equation test on 366 sample data.The empirical results show that:(1)Product modularization has a significant positive impact on competitive advantage.Modular design has a significant positive impact on cost advantages.Modular design has a significant positive impact on differentiated advantages.Modular production has a significant positive impact on cost advantages.Modular production has a significant positive impact on differentiated advantages.(2)Manufacturing flexibility plays an intermediary role in the process of product modularization affecting competitive advantage.Manufacturing flexibility plays an intermediary role in the impact of modular design on cost advantages.Manufacturing flexibility plays an intermediary role in the impact of modular design on differentiated advantages.Besides,manufacturing flexibility plays an intermediary role in the impact of modular production on cost advantages.Manufacturing flexibility plays an intermediary role in the impact of modular production on differentiated advantages.In order to analyze the realization path of product modularization to enhance competitive advantage,the author selected a classic home furnishing manufacturing company in Henan----Daxin Cabinet Manufacturing Co.,Ltd.for a case study.The author discusses ways that Daxin enterprises use product modularization to obtain cost advantages and differentiated advantages,and establish enterprise competitive advantages.On the basis of empirical and case analysis,the author puts forward the proposal of using product modularization to enhance the competitive advantage of enterprises.These research results provide a theoretical reference for the transformation of manufacturing enterprises' production methods.
