1 ObjectiveThis study was performed to evaluate the short-term and long-term effectiveness and safety of "the regulating-yang" warm needling acupuncture in the treatment of perennial allergic rhinitis.2 MethodsIn total,27 subjets who met the inclusion criteria were randomized into a treatment group(14 cases)and a control group(13 cases).Treatment group acupoint:Dazhui(GV14),Yintang(LI20),Sibai(ST2),Yingxiang(GV29),Shangyingxiang(EX5),Shangxing(GV21),Chize(LU5),Lieque(LU7),Hegu(LI4).The needles were inserted into acupints for Deqi, then moxa stick was ignited and attached to the handle of the needle of Dazhui,One treatment was administered for 20 min, three times per week for 4 weeks.Control group took Loratadine,1 tablets per day for 4 weeks.Outcomes:the TNSS and TNNSS were applied before、2 weeks and 4weeks after treatment and 3 months、6 months after the end of treatment、The RQLQ score was also determined before and 4weeks after treatment and 3 months、6 months after the end of treatment.3 ResultsTNSS:After 2 weeks and 4 weeks of treatment, the TNSS were greater than that before treatment in both groups(P<0.05).After 2 weeks of treatment, there were significant differences between the two groups(P<0.05);after 4 weeks of treatment, there was no difference between the two groups(P>0.05).The study results showed that both group can effectively decrease the nasal symptoms and after 2 weeks of treatment, the effects of nasal symptoms in the acupuncture and moxibustion treatment group were much better than Loratadine. At the end of treatment, the effects of two groups were equivalent. At the 3-month and 6-month follow-up after treatment, all TNSS were significantly higher than those before treatment in the two groups(P<0.05).At the 3-month follow-up,there were significant differences between the two groups(P<0.05);at the 6-month follow-up,there was no significant difference between groups(P>0.05).The results showed that both groups demonstrated long-term efficacy, and at the 3-month follow up,the acupuncture and moxibustion treatment group were much better than Loratadine.TNNSS:After 2 weeks and 4 weeks of treatment, the TNNSS were greater than that before treatment in treatment group(P<0.05).In control group, after 2 weeks of treatment, compared with before treatment, the difference was not statistically significant(P>0.05),after 4 weeks of treatment, the score was greater than that before treatment. After 2 weeks of treatment, there were significant differences between the two groups(P<0.05);after 4 weeks of treatment, there were no difference between the two groups(P>0.05).The study results showed that both group can effectively decrease the non nasal symptoms and the acupuncture and moxibustion treatment group took fester effect after 2weeks of treatment. At the 3-month and 6-month follow-up after treatment, all TNNSS were significantly higher than those before treatment in the two groups(P<0.05),but at 6-month follow-up in control group, compared with before treatment, the difference was not statistically significant(P>0.05).At follow-up,there were significant differences between the two groups(P<0.05).The results showed that both groups demonstrated long-term efficacy, and the acupuncture and moxibustion treatment group were much better than Loratadine.RQLQ scores:After 4 weeks of treatment, the RQLQ scores were greater than that before treatment in both groups(P<0.05),and there was significant difference between the two groups(P<0.05).The study results showed that both group can effectively improve the quality of life, the acupuncture and moxibustion treatment group were much better than Loratadine. At the 3-month and 6-month follow-up after treatment, all RQLQ scores were significantly higher than those before treatment in the two groups(P<0.05).At the 3-month follow-up,there were significant differences between the two groups(P<0.05);at the 6-month follow-up,there was no significant difference between groups(P>0.05).The results showed that both groups demonstrated long-term efficacy, and at the 3-month follow up,the acupuncture and moxibustion treatment group were much better than Loratadine.Safety evaluation:there were no adverse reactions and side effects at treatment in both group.4 ConclusionThis study indicates that "the regulating-yang" warm needling acupuncture can effectively improve the total nasal symptoms、total non nasal symptoms and rhino-conjunctivitis quality of life of perennial allergic rhinitis, and has long-term efficacy. The therapy is safety and has no side effects.
