Objective:To investigate the correlation of serum uric acid(SUA)level with bone mineral density(BMD)in postmenopausal women and senior men,and provide data for further illumination of SUA in bone metabolism. Methods:A total of 2023 postmenopausal women and senior men who participated in healthy examination were enrolled in this study.Participants were divided into 4 groups in accordance with serum uric acid level, namely T1 group(female with SUA?180 ?mol/ L,male with SUA?240 ?mol/ L),T2 group(female with SUA 181-250 ?mol/ L,male with SUA 241-320 ?mol/ L),T3 group(female with SUA 251-420 ?mol/ L,male with SUA321-420 ?mol/ L),T4 group(female and male with SUA?421 ?mol/ L).The difference of bone mineral density and clinical indexes were investigated among the 4groups.Multivariate regression analysis was used to analyze the correlation between SUA and the overall BMD,BMD at lumbar spine, femoral neck and trochanter.Logistics analysis was used to test the relationship between SUA and osteopenia and osteoporosis. Results: After adjusting multiple confounders,SUA was positively correlated with BMI,ALT,TG,TCHO,the overall BMD,BMD at lumbar spine, femoral neck and trochanter(r were 0.203,0.356,0.468,0.244 and 0.313,0.286,0.290,and 0.351 respectively,P<0.05),and was negatively correlated with HDL(r =-0.309,P <0.05).The BMD level increased with SUA level in both postmenopausal women and senior men(P<0.05).The rate of osteopenia in T1 was 1.312,1.354,and 1.397 times higher than that in T2,T3,and T4.The rate of osteoporosis in T1 was 1.569,1.425 and 1.478 times higher than that in T2,T3,and T4.Conclusion : SUA was posi-tively correlated with BMD in both postmenopausal women and senior men,and high SUA level was a protective factor to osteopenia and osteoporosis.
