Research On The Protection Of Cliff Paintings In Cangyuan, Yunnan

Cangyuan rock paintings are created by the ethnic groups of cangyuan to pray for harvest,worship the deities and record the major events in their life,which are of great historical and artistic values.However,as a kind of stone relics preserved in the open air,which have long been influenced by natural factors and human activities,cangyuan rock paintings are damaged because the rocks would fall,peel off and crack,and the paint would fade.Furthermore,the lack of the awareness to protect these paintings and the graffiti on theses paintings either out of ignorance or ill intentions have strengthened the damage of the rock paintings of cangyuan.After the study of the discovery process,environment of distribution,content,themes and the historical and artistic values of cangyuan rock paintings,this thesis analyzes the present situation of the preservation of these rock paintings and points out that there still lacks careful preservation,and these rock paintings are seriously damaged.The damage of cangyuan rock paintings is featured by the weathering of the rocks,the reason of which is carefully analyzed in this thesis.It is suggested that cangyuan rock paintings should be preserved by founding special administration,setting up data base,installing monitoring systems and founding museums of the rock paintings of cangyuan.To preserve the rock paintings that have collapsed,bolt reinforcement technique should be used to protect the rocks;to preserve the damaged parts of the rock paintings that have fractured,cracked and peeled off,reinforcing materials should be used to strengthen the damaged parts;and to prevent the paint from being further damaged by sunlight,the erosion of the rain,air pollution particulates and acidic gases,a layer of protective coat should be painted to protect the surface of cangyuan rock paintings.
