The technique of coke and ink is a common technique in traditional Chinese painting. It has existed for a long time, but it usually plays the role of “outlined leader” in the painting.Jing Hao's "Six Essentials" in Five Dynasties have greatly improved the status of "Ink",which made Ink into a unique aesthetic requirement for Chinese painting, and since that Jiao Mo has begun to evolve and develop in painting, however it was only as a technique and not form a style.Cheng Sui,who lived in the late Ming and early Qing Dynasty, completed a landscape painting with Jiao Mo for the first time, stylized the technique of coke and ink,and enabled Jiao Mo to stand in the Chinese-Landscape-Painting with independent personal spirit and entered Chinese-Landscape-Painting.He also became the first pioneer in the history of the development of Jiao Mo landscape. However,as far as Chinese painting is concerned,it has many expression techniques, and why did Cheng Sui choose to focus on the ink technique and try to stylize it? The reason for this is complicated. From his own point, the identity of himself, his outstanding skill in carving stone and stone, and the relationship between teacher and him are the foundations and important internal factors for the his landscape painting style. From the background of the times,it also related to the inspired significance of the use of ink pens by other painters of the School of Xin'an-Painting.From the Origin of Aesthetics,it is the profound aesthetic origin implied by the formation of the Landscape-Painting,which contain the deep-rooted aesthetic principle of "Darkness" originating from the integration of Laozi's "Faint" aesthetic thoughts. Both the "Odd" aesthetic fashion was very popular in the end of Ming Dynasty and the "Jian" and "Yi" of Xin'an Paintings provided great spiritual power for the formation of the Jiao Mo Landscape Painting. Each of these aspects may not be the decisive factor in the formation of the style of Cheng Sui's Landscape Painting, but they are all essential and important factors.Cheng Sui's Landscape-Paintings of the Ink not only inherited the outstanding qualities of Landscape-Painting,but also formed the unique visual characteristics and rich expression of his own landscape paintings. His landscape paintings in Jiao Mo were engraved and carved by law and broke through the traditional shackles. His paintings also break the stereotype of water is hard to paint so that has a reputation of "Dry Autumn Wind,Warm Spring Breeze".The atmosphere in his paintings is notonly the manifestation of Cheng Yu's legacy, but also implies his infinite yearning for "Tao",which is unique and self-contained.However,the Jiao Mo Landscape Painting was silenced more than two hundred years later after Cheng Sui.Under the continuous efforts of a group of modern and contemporary painters such as Huang Binhong,Zhang Wei,they constantly renewed themselves.Although they have been tempered by history, they still exude a new vitality and gives infinite sigh and inspiration to contemporary artists.
