German writer Thomas mann,who was awarded the Nobel Prize in literature in 1929,occupies a prominent place in the world literary.Thomas mann is a genius writer,published in 1894,the first "corrupt" won the social acclaim,published in 1901,the novel " The budenpollocks " make him famous,caused lots of critical attention,then created a "death in Venice","the magic mountain","Dr.Faust" and so on important work.Thomas mann has his own unique style of writing.His novels are wide and thoughtful,while "intertextuality" is a distinctive feature of his writing.Scholars at home and abroad have conducted various research for its artists,illness and death imagery,anti-war novel political thought.Based on the existing research,this paper studies the intertextuality of the novel by means of intertextuality theory.This paper discusses the implications and openness of the text of Thomas mann’s novels,to analysis and summary the author is how to develop the internal contact of his novel and how establish the relationship between intertextuality and classic text.Through the cross-text study of Thomas mann’s works,it is helpful to break out of the single text world and broaden the research field of his works.The thesis consists of introduction,the body of four chapters and conclusion.The Quote Starts with Thomas mann’s life story.This paper first briefly introduces his creative process,analyzes the stylistic features of the writer’s creation.Then summarizes the research of Thomas mann at home and abroad.The first chapter consists of two parts.In the first section,the formation and development of intertextuality theory is sorted out,and the intertextuality theory of relevant scholars is collated,thus laying the foundation for the intertextual research of Thomas mann.In the second quarter,the paper mainly discussed reasons of Thomas mann’s intertextuality writing:First,Thomas mann’s autobiographical writing style makes the creation of a series of novel "artists",this kind of novel constitute the intertextuality in their works;Second,Thomas mann is keen on quoting and collage when writing,which makes his works intertextual with other works.The third is Thomas mann’s passion for adapting and rewriting literary classics,so that his related works and literary classics form intertextuality.The second chapter mainly studies the intertextuality of Thomas mann’s works.It is mainly embodied in characters,images and themes.First expounded through a series of artist’s image in the works,there is common ground between them,the artist image is the author of the self-reference,all the people together is the comprehensive reflection of the writer himself;Secondly,the author has excavated the disease and music images which symbolize death in the works.These two images appeared in many works of Thomas mann and expressed the author’s concern about social issues.Finally discusses the paradox in the works of the theme,Thomas mann of many works are the theme of art and life,the opposite is Thomas thinking about the present situation of the artist.The third chapter focuses on the rewriting and rewriting of classic literature by the two works of "doctor Faustus" and "Tristan"."Dr.Faust" continues the "Faust and the devil bet"story,on the basis added some new era factors,the artistic is more obvious of the characters,the theme reflects on artist contradiction in the story,and added to the social and political factors.Tristan is a rewriting of the folk literature Tristan and Isolde,the image of the characters has changed the heroic spirit of the past,became a morbid artist.On the theme,the sublime of "love and death" is eliminated in the traditional works.Tristan is the irony of traditional classic and highlight the artist’s theme by contrast.Chapter four is about the openness and pluralism of the writings of Thomas mann.Except for the adaptation of the classics,Thomas mann works contains references to other text and collage,works in the reference is not dispensable,all references to contain the author deep intention,the text has important role in explaining these references.As a montage artist,his work is extensive and profound,rich in literature,arts,theology,philosophy,medicine,and other elements,all of the knowledge integration in the work,makes an encyclopedic works.Finally,the conclusion summarizes the intertextuality characteristics and the value and significance of the intertextuality study of Thomas mann’s novels.
