As a unique type of Chinese films,the martial arts films play an important role in advancing and enriching national characteristics and culture.The audiences can deeply feel the spirit of morality and justice and humanistic care as well as Chinese traditional aesthetics in the martial arts films while watching films.In recent years,the number of martial arts films in cinema chains has increased continuously,however,as a mature type of films in China,the martial arts films are considered to have declined by some scholars.Compared with the first commercial climax in the 1920 s and 1930 s,the contents of martial arts films have been disjointed from the times.Although "De-jianghu" brings more mass consumption and industrial energy,the foundation of martial arts films has lost.The reason is that the contemporary martial arts films are the lack of morality and justice,and it can't succeed in creating typical heroes.This article will take the most important factor in the martial arts films-morality and justice as the breakthrough point,make in-depth research on the types,carrier and expression of morality and justice in the martial arts films from the beginning of the twentieth century to the 1940 s.Based on the text analysis,it combs the status and appearance of morality and justice in the martial arts films in this period,discusses and analyzes the role of morality and justice in the martial arts films in order to provide a new perspective for contemporary Chinese martial arts films and readers to better study Chinese martial arts films.The article is divided into two parts to discuss morality and justice in the martial arts films.The first part is the introduction,which mainly puts forward the research problem-the representation of morality and justice in Chinese martial arts films in the first half of the twentieth century,and it thoroughly expounds the origin of the research problem and the definition of the martial arts films and morality and justice.The second part is the body of the article,which is divided into three chapters.It analyzes the martial arts films in the period from the cultural connotation,the subject presentation and the space construction of morality and justice.The first chapter of this article combs the morality and justice in Chinese culture,from the two different social status of normal society and abnormal society,it specifically analyzes the connotation of social morality and justice,family morality and justice and national morality and justice in normal society,as well as the connotation of enlightened morality and justice and revolutionary morality and justice in the abnormal society;The second chapter focuses on the analysis of the representation of morality and justice in the martial arts films,such as the positive and non-positive symbolization tendency of the subject in the martial arts films,the archetype of heroes,Animus archetype and the Common human archetype in the turbulent environment.And uses the research methods of outlaw heroes to analyze the subject of the martial arts films.The last chapter analyzes the space construction of morality and justice in the martial arts films.It elaborates from three sections including four types of natural material spaces in the martial arts films such as mountains,cliffs,caves and rivers,social space such as Jianghu,temples and town markets and the Utopian imagination space created for carrying the spiritual ballast in the martial arts films.Through the analysis of morality and justice in this article,taking history as a mirror,it is hoped that it can provide some references for the development of Chinese martial arts films and the construction of contemporary socialist spiritual civilization.During this period,the Chinese martial arts films showed excellent morality and justice,which brought the first commercial climax to Chinese films.And the thought of morality and justice rooted in films continues to this day.
