The issue of human freedom is a constant concern for Leibniz throughout his life.Leibniz has never systematically talked about the issue of freedom. His discussion of the freedom issue is found in many of his books, manuscripts and letters.Through the analysis of these texts, this article attempts to systematically grasp Leibniz's view of freedom through the point of spontaneity, intelligence and contingency.Leibniz's theory of freedom is not only the theoretical premise of his pre-determined harmonious system, but also the inevitable inference of this theory. In any case,Leibniz's theory of freedom defends his fatalism theory while defending his non-fatalism.At that time people's views on the issue of freedom, either immersed in theological beliefs,or immersed in the victory of natural science, and Leibniz took a compromise.Leibniz's theory of freedom contains a wealth of dialectical thinking and is of great significance for emancipating the mind.Since this article is mainly about the Leibniz view of freedom,it can not be separated from Leibniz era. After a brief introduction to Leibniz's time,we started with the three aspects of spontaneity, rationality, and contingency. Finally,we introduced the influence of Leibniz's concept of freedom and the freedom of Leibniz. The evaluation of the concept,so this paper is divided into five parts:The first part introduces the background of Leibniz's time and the theoretical origins of Leibniz's view of liberty. We believe that Leibniz's concept of freedom mainly comes from four sources: Aristotle, medieval theology,Hobbes and Spinoza. The second part introduces the relationship between Leibniz's view of freedom and his metaphysics. The third part, this part is the focus of this article, which also accounts for the most space. This section begins with Leibniz's theory of freedom from the three elements of freedom: spontaneity, intelligence, and contingency. In the first section, spontaneity mainly talks about spontaneity as the essence of the entity. This essence produces Leibniz's theory of will, and this kind of will theory is closely related to necessity. In the second section,I mainly talked about the relationship between intelligence and passion, and intelligence guided people to make judgments, and the moral responsibility resulting from this kind of judgment. The third section mainly discusses the relationship between contingency and necessity.Through these three kinds of necessity, contingency is understood.Existence is an accidental event.Comprehension can be understood through existence, and the concept of contingent proposition includes the relationship between theories. In the fourth part, there seems to be a conflict between freedom and God's foreknowledge, pointing out that Leibniz resolved this conflict through infinite analysis. The fifth part is an evaluation of Leibniz's concept of freedom, which includes both the progressiveness of this concept of freedom and the limitations of this concept of freedom. This progressiveness is mainly manifested in its opposition to mechanistic thinking, combined with the achievements of the natural sciences of the time, and to a certain extent the opposition to religious superstition and feudalism. This limitation is manifested in the context of God's controversy and the realization of this freedom in a closed system.
