Perceive The Impact Of Forgiveness On Interpersonal Trust

Interpersonal trust is positive expectation to others’behavior.A sample of research revealed that interpersonal trust play crucial role in the healthy development of interpersonal relationship and is viewed as bond that brought everyone together.Social psychologists hold the opinion that the way and contact experience in the interaction can influence the trust.So it is crucial that identify the factor influenced the trust and learn the condition that the trust is occur.In the interpersonal contact,the conflict is inevitable.The previous research suggested that relationship quality is directly influenced by conflict,the coping style after conflict also play role in many aspect of relationship.Recently,the research of forgiveness draw the concerned of many psychologists,which enriched the research of conflict and interrelationship.The traditional view revealed the positive effect of forgiveness to victim’s interrelationship.The resent research is to examined the relationship between perceived forgiveness and trust from the perspective of offender.We ague that when offender perceived the forgiveness from victim,they will show more trust to victim.We aimed to prove the effect of perceived forgiveness on the trust and revealed the mediation mechanism and boundary condition via cross-sectional study and experiment design.The study 1 revealed that the relationship between the perceived forgiveness tendency and interpersonal trust tendency.The study 1 made a survey of measuring the participants’ perceived forgiveness and trust to 418 Shaanxi normal university graduates.The result suggested the perceived forgiveness tendency and interpersonal trust tendency show significant positive correlation.And the study find the significant moderating effect of attachment avoidance in the relationship between the perceived forgiveness and trust.The study 2 examined the effect of perceived forgiveness prime on the trust accessibility.The result suggested that the participants under the perceived forgiveness priming condition respond more quickly to truth related word than the participants under the perceived avoidance priming condition,perceived revenge priming condition and neutral priming condition.The study 3 examined the effect of perceived forgiveness on the trust behaviour under hypothetical scenarios.We select three common conflict according to previous research,all the participants exposed to four hypothetical scenarios:perceived forgiveness scenarios,perceived avoidance scenarios,perceived revenge scenarios,neutral scenarios.We asked all the participants imagine the conflict under the hypothetical scenarios to manipulate the degree of the perceived forgiveness of the participants.After imagine the hypothetical scenarios,we measure the trust behaviour of participants though Trust game task.The result revealed that the participants under the perceived forgiveness scenarios show more trust behaviour than the participants under perceived avoidance scenarios,perceived revenge scenarios and neutral scenarios.Moreover,the result revealed the mediation mechanism under the relationship between perceived forgiveness and trust:perceived kindness,and the result suggested the attachment avoidance play the significant modulated effect on the relationship between the perceived forgiveness and trust behaviour.The study 4 manipulate the perceived kindness of participants under the hypothetical scenarios,which aimed to further examine the mediation effect of perceived kindness.The result revealed that when participants perceived forgiveness but kindness under under the hypothetical scenarios,the trust of participants did not improve,which support our hypothesis that perceived kindness mediated the relationship between the perceived forgiveness and trust.The result draw the conclusion that perceived forgiveness can promote the trust through promoting the perceived kindness,and the effect only appear for low attachment avoidance person,but for high attachment avoidance person.
