This paper attempts to explore the current situation of Chinese adults’perceived control and its relationship with adult attachment and interpersonal trust. Extant research has proved that perceived control, adult attachment and interpersonal trust are correlated with one another. This paper holds that individual of secure attachment would explore the world more actively, thus experience more successes in life, and therefore perceives more control that individual of unsecure attachment. Besides, individual of secure attachment tends to believe the world is a safe place and is ready to trust others; therefore, they would turn to others for help in times of difficulty and thus perceive more control than individual who is not securely attached and doesn’t trust other easily. Based on what’s stated above, this paper hypothesizes that adult attachment can predict perceived control and that interpersonal trust plays an incomplete mediating role. To test this hypothesis, this paper first revises Spheres of Control Scale-version 3(SOC-v3) into Chinese version. We formed the preliminary Chinese version of SOC-v3 by translating the English version into Chinese, back-translating and changing the wording; then, we randomly seek for participants in East China University, issued questionnaires on the Internet through SOJUMP and received 443 effective questionnaires; finally, we conducted item analysis and reliability analysis via SPSS22.0 and construct validity analysis via Mplus. We used the Chinese SOC-v3 revised in this paper, Close Relationship Experience Scale revised by Li Tonggui et al., and the Interpersonal Trust Scale made by Rotter as our research tools; and we issued the three scales in the form of one questionnaires on the Internet through SOJUMP and received 405 effective questionnaires; we conduced Independent-Samples T Tests, correlation analysis, ANOVA, Regression Analysis, etc. via SPSS22.0.After rejecting 4 items whose correlation with the aggregate score are below 0.3 during item analysis and 1 item which has loading on all 3 factors during construct validity analysis, indexes of the construct validity analysis have all reached acceptable standards, with both CFI and TLI above 0.85 and both RMSEA and SRMR below 0.08; Cronbach’s a of the scale has reached 0.781 and the Cronbach’s a of the three subscale are 0.699,0.744 and 0.712 respectively. The scores of Chinese adults on Chinese SOC-v3 and its three subscale are within one standard deviation from mid-point score of the scale with the score on Personal Efficacy subscale and Interpersonal Control subscale higher than that of Sociopolitical Control subscale. Working people’s Interpersonal Control score is significantly higher than that of college students while college students’ Sociopolitical Control score is significantly higher than that of working people; females’score the whole scale and on Personal Efficacy are significantly higher than that of males; scores on the whole scale and the three subscales are not significantly differentiated between people from cities and people from villages; Sociopolitical Control score of people with siblings is significantly higher than that of only child. Scores on the Chinese SOC-v3, Personal Efficacy and Interpersonal Control are negatively correlated with anxiety and avoidance dimensions of adult attachment; Chinese SOC-v3 score of individual of secure attachment is significantly higher than that of other attachment styles; Personal Efficacy and Interpersonal Control of individual of secure attachment are significantly higher than that of fearful attachment and dismissive attachment. Scores on the Chinese SOC-v3 and the three subscales are all positively correlated with interpersonal trust. Interpersonal trust is negatively correlated with avoidance dimension of adult attachment; interpersonal trust of individual of secure attachment is significantly higher than that of fearful attachment and dismissive attachment. Avoidance dimension of adult attachment can predict scores on Chinese SOC-v3, Personal Efficacy and Interpersonal Control, and interpersonal trust plays a mediating role with the mediating effect/total effect ratio being 36.4%,26.1% and 11.5% respectively. The revised Chinese SOC-v3 has 25 items in total. Its internal consistency reliability, the internal consistency of each subscale and the construct validity of the scale are good. The scale can meet psychometric standards. The whole perceived control and the perceived control in three areas of Chinese adults are average with Personal Efficacy and Interpersonal Control higher than Sociopolitical Control; perceived control is significantly differentiated on demographic variables including identity (college students or working people), gender, and only-child or non-only-child, but it’s not significantly differentiated on hometown (cities or villages). The researcher has explained these findings in the paper. Perceived control, adult attachment and interpersonal trust are correlated with one another. Adult attachment can predict perceived control, Personal Efficacy and Interpersonal Control, with interpersonal trust playing an incomplete mediating role. This partially explains how perceived control forms and develops.
