What determines perceptions of trust? This question addressing the very foundation of trust research has produced three locations:trustor, trustee and dyad. But,How does the locus of trust change over time?Where is the dominant locus of trust in different stages during trust development? What is the relationship between trust and distrust——opposite side of a factor or two factor?Different from previous research perspective which focus on investigating specific determinants residing within each locus independently, the study is from the perspective of integration, focusing on all 3 locus. We observed ratings on perceived trustworthiness of two groups(different relationships).Study 1 collected ratings of trustworthiness perceptions for group members from 155 undergraduates at a 15-week class, while study 2 collected ratings of trustworthiness perceptions and distrust for roommates.By modeling LMEMs by social relationship analysis method, isolate and compare the influnence of the locus of trust,we find that trustor influence decreases over time for perceived ability and integrity, trustee and dyad influence increase for perceived ability, benevolence, and integrity over time.trustor is the dominant locus for perceived ability, benevolence, and integrity initially, but over time the trustee becomes the dominant locus for perceived ability.By examining the ratings og distrust,we find weak positive correlation between trust and distrust. We also find that trustor is the dominant locus of distrust during the time. This study explore development trend of loci of trust, verify the theory model of trust development, prove that time can be not ignored during trust development, research findings on distrust provide a reference perspective for related fields.
