As a scholar who is good at introspecting his own academic research,Chen Pingyuan has paid attention early to the relationship between graphic and text.He devoted himself to the practice of intertextual writings in graphic and text actively, and tries to explore the practical application of the intertextuality in the field of literary research so as to form a unique thought and experience of intertextuality.Chen Pingyuan thought that the images that entered into the text must echo each other and produce dialogue. The key of interaction is the dialogue and coordination between images and texts, which is not only implemented as layout status, but also embodied in production process. The best state of the image-text book is the mutual causation between images and texts, mutual interpretation, mutual demonstration and interpretation of images, which constitute the important pillar of the whole book.Besides, not all books are suitable for layout, and academic picture books need to restrict illustrations and keep the charm of words. The thought of Chen Pingyuan's textual intertextuality has experienced three stages of development:"emphasizing the coordination of images","exploring the interactive mode of graphic and text" and "the tacit understanding of dialogues in graphic and text",and showing that "restriction illustrations" and "graphic and literary","great vision and historical","problem consciousness and knowledge archaeology".Chen Pingyuan's thought of intertextuality not only enriches the compilation experience of graphic texts, but also has great significance for the study of literature in late Qing Dynasty.
