Ye Guangqin's Family Novels And Modern Literary Traditions

Family culture is regarded as a glorious part of Chinese traditional culture.Since the May Forth Movement,under the leadership of liberation of personality ideology,the family culture has become a sword for novelists to go against with feudalism and promote the idea of enlightenment with its critical thinking,which forms a spiritual tradition of this type of novel creation.In the centuries-old history of Chinese modern and contemporary literature,a large amount of family novels are colorful and flourish,but writer like Ye Guangqin,with a unique aristocrat background,facing the ups and downs of family fate changes,not only inheriting and surpassing the spiritual tradition of the modern family novel creation,but also taking this chance to observe and reflect on contemporary life,is quite precious and rare.Since the 1990s,Ye Guangqin's family novels have caused a good response.The complementarity and echo between the two-representative works,Picking Mulberry(Cai Sangzi)and Top Media(Zhuangyuan Mei),have drawn the attention of the critics in terms of ideological and artistic features.This dissertation attempts to do some integrated research of them,trying to depict the overall style of Ye Guangqin's family novel creation and make some detailed analysis of its ideology and artistic characteristics,exploring the ideological elements of the May Forth Movement,such as "personal liberation" and "civilian literature" in Ye Guangqin's family novels,and pursuing its inheritance,transcendence and deviation from modern literature tradition in contemporary context,finally to show the uniqueness of her family novels so as to enrich the research on Ye Guangqin's works even the entire Chinese novels of family theme.This dissertation consists of three parts:the introduction,the body and the conclusion;with four chapters in the body.In the introduction,I briefly analyze the present research status and main achievements of Ye Guangqin's family novels,and interpret the research significance and the writing motivation of this article.In Chapter One,based on the crusade against feudalism and the reversion to the integrity of human nature,I explore Ye Guangqin's renewal of the trend of "liberation of individuality" in modern family novels,and draw a conclusion that breaking up the ideas of people differing by ages and classes,and establishing a complete and natural ideal personality,constitute an important theme in Ye Guangqin's family novel creation.The second chapter focuses on the hot spot of the research of Ye Guangqin's works,namely "the struggle between civilians and nobles".This article believes that Ye Guangqin's novels are intertwined with aristocratic temperament from blood,and a sense of civilians under the influence of modern consciousness.She tries to find a recipe for dealing with contemporary issues through the noble temperament and the pursuit of traditional cultural characteristics.Therefore,there is a certain degree of embarrassment between the aristocratic spirit and the civilian consciousness.The third chapter mainly analyzes the cultural implication of the narrative of Ye Guangqin's family novels.The article discusses the construction of the narrative model of Ye Guangqin's family novels and its relationship with the tradition of the new literature from four dimensions,which respectively are the transformation of father's image,father-son relationship,the brother relationship and the marriage relationship.The fourth chapter explains the uniqueness of the narration of Ye Guangqin's family novels.The intersection of the three kinds of narrator makes the text showing a strong"autobiographical”color,and also makes the text appearing with a polyphony beauty.The fresh and lively perspective of children forms a hedge against the sadness of the text.Furthermore,the large number of Beijing Opera lyrics have not only form rich intertextuality as subtexts with the novels,but also act as an important symbol of traditional culture,which adds the novel with a unique historical charm.All these continuation and transcendence of the modern Chinese literary tradition featuring"personal liberation" and "populism" have built the unique significance and value of Ye Guangqin's family novels in the history of contemporary Chinese literature from all levels.
