The Difference Of Existential Sentences In Literary Style

Based on a nine hundred thousand words corpus,this paper examines,counts and analyzes the existential sentences in novels,prose and poetry of literary style from the three aspects of the quantity and distribution characteristics,the verb subcategories,and the expressive function,which reveals some differences of existential sentences in novels,essays and poems,makes specific explanations and descriptions of these differences.In term of quantity and distribution,there are obvious differences between existential sentences in novels,prose and poetry.The number of existential sentences in novels is much more than that in prose,and the number of existential sentences in prose is far more than that in poetry.In the novels and proses,there are more cases of existential sentences,and in poetry there are fewer;in the use of verbs,the types of verbs used in the narrative scenes and character descriptions in fiction and narrative prose are more abundant.In lyric prose and poetry,there are more verbs used in the description of scenes than in novels and narrative essays.Because the quantity of fugitive sentence is not enough,the difference in verbs is not obvious;in the expression function,existential sentences are mostly description sentences,but in the specific description function,the two functions of the existential sentence that presenting scenario and portraying figures are more obvious in the novel.The function of describing the natural environment is more obvious in prose and poetry,and the differences of fugitive sentence functions reflected in the three kinds of style are not clear.
