This paper,taking the calligraphy of plaque in Qing Dynasty as the main body,makes a general combing and explanation of its concept,background of its prosperity,artistic characteristics,representing calligraphers and its value.And this paper tries to explore the aesthetic expression of plaque calligraphy in different cultural contexts,excavate its artistic value and practical value,and reveal the artistic characteristics of plaque calligraphy in Qing Dynasty differing from those of previous dynasties.The prosperity of plaque calligraphy has complex and comprehensive factors,such as the change of dynasty,the development of tablet calligraphy,the promotion of official organizations,the improvement of production level,and so on,all of which have direct relationships in developing and promoting plaque calligraphy in Qing Dynasty.However,the most direct factor of it is the logical result of the development of calligraphy art itself.The second is the influence from the great environment of calligraphy in Qing Dynasty.Therefore,when discussing the academic background of the prosperity of plaque calligraphy,this paper focuses on the development of tablet calligraphy study in Qing Dynasty,which means that there's only a supplementary explanation on the promotion of official organizations,the improvement of production level,and so on.From the appearance of the "official calligraphy" in Qin Dynasty,after the construction of calligraphy theories in Tang Dynasty,Yuan Dynasty and Ming Dynasty,calligraphy creation began to spread popularly in Qing Dynasty.The plaque calligraphy at that moment not only involves calligraphy historical view and the reconstruction of calligraphy theories,but also brings great changes in calligraphy creation in Qing Dynasty from techniques to ideas.Kang Youwei attributed the reason why the plaque calligraphy in Qing Dynasty was different from previous dynasties to that it was the most difficult to write a book on the list with a square pen,because it was dignified and elegant.The beautify of it is wait-and-see.A person without in-depth researches and understandings on the tablet calligraphy of the Northern Dynasty,can hardly write well without any shortcomings.That is to say,to write the list,one must be proficient in tablet calligraphy.As an art with words as its carrier,calligraphy has its own aesthetic value as well as the aesthetic value of art form itself.It also bears the cultural function of spreading thought and the practical value of transmitting text information.This particularity determines the importance of plaque calligraphy,which played a great role in the Qing Dynasty,where printing technology was extremely underdeveloped.
