Research On The Narrative Strategy Of Folklore Documentary Films

Nowadays,the society is undergoing a period of social transformation,multiple culture coexists with each other,and traditional culture is affected by modern civilization.With the advent of documentary films,documentary research came into being consequently,and works involving folk-custom themes have been an important part of the documentary series for a long time.As folklore inherits the cultural heritage of the nation,more and more attention has been given to the domestic and foreign film and television industry.This thesis will have an in-depth study of folklore documentaries from the narrative point of view,and combine the research of narrative techniques with the practice of folklore documentaries.This research relating to this topic will help us to summarize relevant experiences,identify the demerits as well as make improvements,thus it will provide guidance for and give impetus to folklore documentaries.The folklore documentaries embody the respect for human beings,affirm the value of human beings,and esteem for individuals' pursuit of happiness and dignity.Under the premise of respecting the authenticity of the documentary,the author combines the specific humanistic characteristics of the local customs and draws on the performance techniques and narrative features of the feature film creations,so as to make the narrative means of the folk documentaries more innovative and make the real characters in the documentary more lively and fully express emotion so that the humanities spirit manifested in the documentary is more profound.This dissertation studies narrative expressions of folklore documentaries in terms of narrative concepts,narrative features,image techniques,editing techniques and so on.This thesis also uses four methods of research: literature analysis,case study,inductive and summary and comparative research method through different angles and levels to study the narrative strategies of folklore documentaries.The following briefly describes the structure of this paper.First of all,this article focuses on the narrative concept of folklore documentaries,analyzes the narrative concepts and principles of folklore documentaries at a macro level from three perspectives of humanistic spirit,civilian perspective,and ethnic culture,laying a solid foundation for the creation of similar themes by summarizing outstanding folklore documentaries with specific examples and searching inspiration from the creative process of graduation works.The third chapter analyzes the narrative characteristics of folklore documentaries.From the three perspectives of authenticity,emotional clues and multi-dimensional space-time,it analyzes the narrative features of various preeminent films at mesolevel and presents the aesthetic characteristics from the overall analysis of folklore theme documentary combining the specific narrative features of the graduates' works.The fourth chapter elaborates on the narrative expression of folklore documentaries,and analyzes the artistic features and narrative techniques of outstanding films such as “Chinese New Year” from the details of local flavor,personalities of characters,screen images,montage,commentaries,audio and so on.This thesis draws lessons from their creative experiences from the practical point of view,and is of great help for the following creative research.
