In this paper,the author names the creative technique as "body metaphor",and summarizes the use of "body metaphor" in western visual art since the 20 th century.Combining with the development of artistic conception,the author sorts out three generating scheme of "body metaphor",including language refining of body form,application of body image and symbols,and the application of body reference(readymade article).This paper aims at understanding the specific performance and presenting methods of "body metaphor".And with cultural identity theory,the paper analyzes historical origination,creation intention and realistic significance argument of "body metaphor" as a creative technique.Taking body art conception’s development thread and identity’s theory development history as reference,the paper tries to understand the specific art work in contemporary art from the perspective of identity and inspect how artists at home and abroad use "body metaphor" as a creative way to express ideas.The paper is divided into four chapters: chapter one gives a brief review of "body metaphor",analyzing what "body metaphor" is,and explaining the language charms of "body metaphor";The second chapter summarizes the effective mode of "body metaphor" as a creative technique by analyzing some works of western visual art since the 20 th century;The third chapter establishes the thinking frame that regards identity as artistic method and concept through the relationship between identity and body art.The fourth chapter focuses on the concrete works of contemporary artists at home and abroad.From the perspective of identity,it analyzes how "body metaphor" express art concept and present artist’s identity appearance as artistic technique;The fifth chapter discusses the meaning of "body metaphor" as a creative technique based on the author’s own practical experience.
