Research On The Development And Change Of The Emotional Color Of Words In The New Era

The meaning of a word is a result of interactions between reality and the cognitive subject.It consists of the conceptual meaning and its affiliated meaning.The conceptual meaning of a word is also known as rational meaning or referential meaning which is the core part and it tells the rational perception of the man.As one of the affiliated meaning,feeling meaning including characteristics of emotion,image,style,tone,time,nation and etc.Among these,the emotional meaning of words are often with the most obvious transformation.Emotional meaning is with the characteristics of sociality,objectivity and stability;at the same time,language and society as two variables interact with and influence each other which makes the emotional meaning keep changing all the time.The change of emotional meaning is not only about language,it's also a reflection of society and culture.By comparing the1 st and 7th edition of "Modern Chinese Dictionary",the thesis discusses the development of words' meaning transformation regarding "commendatory and derogatory" since China's open and reformation.And base on the existing studies,the paper explores the cognitive system and the way to express thoughts of human beings.The study is deployed in the directions below:The first part,we expounds the purpose and value of the study,summarize the existing studies,elaborate the study methods and references sources.The second part,we describe the basic fact of words that experienced emotional meanings transformation;covering both the relevant words recorded in "Modern Chinese Dictionary" and also the new words that are actually valid regarding the transformation but not recorded into the dictionary yet.The third part,by comparing the change on words' emotional meaning between the 2 editions,the thesis discusses the traits in emotional meaning transformation of today,such as gradual change,concomitancy and commendatory.The fourth part,guided by the theory of cognitive language,the study focuses to explain the reasons behind the change of emotional meaning,both the reason inside the words and the external factors like society,dialect,mentality and etc.The fifth part is the conclusion,summarizes the full text,and points out the deficiencies in the paper.
