A Study Of Bakhtin's Author View

Bakhtin(1895-1975),a famous Russian literary artist,theorist and critic whose thoughts are complex and profound that cover a wide range of content,serving as a theoretical tank that is inexhaustible.In China,the literary artists also achieved much surrounding with Bakhtin's dialogue,the polyphony theory,the relationship between author and protagonist.However,due to the complexity of Bakhtin's thoughts,this paper believes that his "authors' view" still has not been drawn to a relatively clear and complete end.This issue is colorant with Bakhtin's many literary and artistic theories.Furthermore,his "authors' view"also plays an important role in the development history of Western authors' theory.Therefore,this paper aims at presenting a clearer outlook of Bakhtin's "authors' view" and analyzing his special position and theoretical value in the development process of Western authors' theory through combing and elaboration on Bakhtin's relevant theoretical texts.The specific content is divided into five chapters:The first chapter is an outline of the development stages of Western authors' theory and the source of Bakhtin's thoughts.That is to say,this outline provides a macroscopic framework for further analysis of Bakhtin's "authors' view" and his historical status through analysis of several main stages of establishing,declining and repudiating of his central position in the historical process of the development of Western authors' theory and arrangement of the sourcing theories of him such as philosophical anthropology and linguistics.The second chapter discusses "authors in two kinds of properties"from Bakhtin's "authors' view".From perspectives of cognition and aesthetics,Bakhtin divides the authors' functions into "the first property"---"man" and "the second property"---"creator".This paper believes that the division constitutes the theoretical basis of Bakhtin's "authors' view".Furthermore,it discusses separately "the author in the first property"is in his cognitive nature owing actual experiences outstanding the literary works while "the author in the second property"has his unique aesthetic creating characteristics in chronotope and is always converting in double faces of both dependent and independent between life and art.The third chapter begins with the relationship between "author" and"protagonist" and analyzes the author's image as "narrator" proposed by Bachkin that serves as creator also.Firstly,it analyzes Bakhtin's changes and influences in the relationship between "author" and"protagonist".Secondly,it sources back to the reasons of these changes and influences mentioned above according to Bakhtin's theories of "self"and "other" relationship.Thirdly,starting from the reasons of these changes this paper discusses in details the important component of Bachkin's "authors' view",that is,the "narrative author" involving the perspective of "other".The fourth chapter expounds two main functional authors of "genre author" and "rhetoric author" in Bakhtin's "authors' view".By analyzing the socio-historical nature of Bakhtin's genre view,it is concluded that "genre author" has the characteristics of internal stability and external mouldability,shouldering the responsibilities of both inheriting and innovating from traditional literal works.Moreover,"genre author" connects with "reader context" directly and plays an important role in digging and innovating in literal and artistic meaning.Combining with Bakhtin's "chronotope theory",this paper analyzes two ways of"mono-sound existence"and"dual-sound existence"in"rhetoric author",revealing that Bakhtin's "rhetoric author" is a "language mask" of the author in particular social context "full of voices".The fifth chapter elaborates the specialty and significance of Bakhtin's "authors' view".Combining with research on previous chapters of Bakhtin's "authors' view",this chapter compares with representative views like the "authors' center theory" and the "authors' repudiating theory" and is inclined to support the existing varieties between the reflection on the "authors' center" and the protection of the author himself of Bakhtin's "authors' view".We have to admit that Bakhtin's "authors' view" is indeed objective and comprehensive that still has its theoretical guidance and inspirational significance in solving the current issue the "returning of authors".
