Research On The Way Of Coping With Reality In Li Haozhe's Novels

The thesis takes Lee Ho-cheol’s novels published in the 1950 s and 1960 s as research subject,analyzing the personalities of characters by Alfred’s theory of social psychology so as to further explore writer’s responses and consciousness to realistic world.Characters in Lee Ho-cheol’s works,their responses,consciousness and personalities always varied with the development of society.Firstly,for instance,in Escaping Home,in the circumstances of the Korean War and national secession in the 1950 s,the character “I” choose taking in the reality,striving for overcoming difficulties as well as facing lost home frustratedly at one hand and gradually adapting Korea Society at the other hand.Villages in Empty Valley and High Tide,Jinsoo in Panmunjeom held indifferent attitude towards ideological opposition.The character "I" in Escaping Home and "young man" in A Loose Life the Second Chapter,they had to accepted the reality on the condition of losing their hope cause they had no way back to their hometown.The characters Lee Ho-cheol created in his novels precisely reflect his responses and consciousness to the reality of the Korean War and national secession.Secondly,"People" in A Barber Shop in 1965,‘Kyuho’ in Deputy Mayor,and ‘Hyeongu’ in The Formalities of Registration,confronting constantly changing Korea social society in 1960 s,characters in novel suffered uneasy and uncomfortable depression under the dominance of severe political oppression and anti-communist mechanism.In fact,Lee Ho-cheol takes negative attitude towards the way citizen responded to government political oppression.For example,the characters "Master Wife" and "Cheonan Daughter-in-law" in Little Citizen,in the social background of the disintegration of traditional society and the rapid development of capitalism,most characters choose to go falling down.Actually Lee Ho-cheol felt desperate about the disintegration of traditional society and the fall of people.In addition,in the era of rapid development of capitalism and industrialization,most of the characters in novel choose obeying capitalism order,it occurs to a phenomenon that they can ’t help worshipping money,"Gillyeo" in Seoul Is Full is a good represented character.At the same time,Lee Ho-cheol is very sympathetic about these characters and is critical of them for drifting blindly with the times.
