The Influence Of Narcissism And Goal Orientation On The Escalation Of Individual Commitment

Narcissism is a kind of personality trait,personality process and state,which exists in the normal population.It reflects a strong perception of the self-emotional concern.Previous research on narcissism in decision-making has focused on gambling and investment,while the impact on escalation of commitment has not been addressed.Based on a large number of researches and corresponding theories of domestic and foreign scholars,three studies are designed.From the perspective of individual differences,that is,narcissism,this study makes a preliminary study and discussion on the factors that affect the promise upgrade,and further explores the influence of narcissism and goal orientation on the escalation of commitment.The specific research is as follows:Study 1 explored the effects of trait narcissism and state narcissism on individual escalation of commitment under the two experimental conditions of trait measurement and state initiation,and also studies the effect of the interaction between the two on individual escalation of commitment.The results showed that,regardless of the stable narcissistic traits held by individuals or the experimentally induced narcissism,high narcissistic individuals have higher escalation of commitment decision-making behavior than individuals with low narcissism.Study 2 explored the effects of state narcissism and scenario goal orientation on individual escalation of commitment under experimentally induced conditions.The results showed that the main effects of state narcissism and goal-oriented were significant,that was,individuals with high narcissism have higher escalation of commitment than those with low narcissism and learning goal orientation relative to performance-oriented individuals.Meanwhile,the interaction between state narcissism and goal-oriented was significant.Further simple effect analysis found that individuals with high narcissism had a higher willingness to upgrade under the guidance of performance goals,while individuals with low narcissism were more willing to upgrade under the guidance of learning orientation.Study 3 explored the effects of trait narcissism and traits goal orientation on individual escalation of commitment under the condition of trait measurement.The results showed that the main effect of trait narcissism and learning goal orientation was significant,that was,individuals with high narcissism had a higher willingness to upgrade than individuals with low narcissism,as well as individuals with learning goal-oriented traits.In addition,study 3 found that the interaction between trait narcissism and trait-oriented orientation was not significant.The results showed that narcissism had an important impact on individual escalation of commitment,and state narcissism and situational goal orientation had an interactive effect on escalation of commitment compared to trait narcissism and trait goal orientation.This research not only enrich the research on narcissism and escalation of commitment,but also provide some inspiration and reference value for people's rational decision-making in the future.
