| This paper,through a comprehensive analysis of the geographical location and cultural characteristics of Zhongnan Mountains as well as representative works of Fan Kuan,tries to explore the relationship between Fan Kuan and Zhongnan Mountains and comes to the conclusions about the artistic features of Fan Kuan by analyzing,collocating,summarizing and comparing the multitudes of scattered ancient Chinese drawing theories.From the following aspects including the times Fan Kuan lived in,the development of his artistic features,exploration into his brushwork,analysis of image style,creation of artistic conception,aesthetics study etc.,this paper sets out to discuss whether landscape paintings of Fan Kuan were influenced by Zhongnan Mountains,what the influences were and how they can inspire the modern paintings.Landscape paintings are artistically created by artists through refinement and sublimation of their unique observations of the nature.As the products of genuine interaction between the observed objects and the perceiving subjects,the landscape paintings are often marked with traces that are often able to demonstrate the changes of humanistic and artistic thoughts.Artists,trying to present the nature in their works,may sit in solitude by the river bank,look far into the distance at a mountain,travel to the end of the river,or express their feelings through woods and springs.The first chapter of this paper is the introduction part,which describes the reason for the choice of the topic,the status quo of domestic and foreign research,methodology and main research content.The second chapter mainly introduces Fan Kuan the artist and describes the material and cultural environments Fan Kuan experienced and perceived in his travels from the aspects of the geographical location of Zhongnan Mountains,the geographical characteristics of Fan Kuan's landscape paintings,the theory of"Genuine Picture",and the aesthetics of Zhongnan Mountains being unadorned but magnificent.The third chapter gives a brief account of how Fan Kuan formed his views of landscape and nature before depicting the artistic creation in Song Dynasty guided by the views of nature in Zhongnan Mountains Confucianism,the spirit of learning things through investigation,as well as the realist reproduction.The fourth chapter is the key part in this paper which analyzes the changes of artistic styles in Fan Kuan's landscape paintings,examines his representative works from the times he lived in that gave rise to his artistic style as well as the development process of this style,and studies the features of his brushwork,the causes of the rain-drop stroke,his characteristics in drawing trees and stones and his inheritance of Jing Hao's techniques in painting.Then,the chapter goes on to conclude that the landscape paintings of Fan Kuan took Zhongnan Mountains as prototypes in his creation and were directly influenced by the geographical appearances of Zhongnan Mountains and Huashan Mountain,so as to summarize the features of Fan Kuan's artistic style.The fifth chapter gives a brief description of Fan Kuan's influences on as well as his inspirations to modern paintings from the three aspects of tracing of model works,painting from nature,and creative production.The summary part of this paper describes the influences of Zhongnan Mountains on Fan Kuan's landscape paintings to be concrete and direct,but at the same time indirect and abstract,as the Zhongnan Mountains seemed remote and aloof but also intimately caring.This part also sums up how the landscape paintings of Fan Kuan have influenced the author in painting practices.This paper adopts comparative analysis method,data collection and collation method,and literature research comparison method based on the past academic achievements,with a focus on the discussions about causes of Fan Kuan's artistic style,composition and layout,brushwork and ink-using habits in his masterpieces of Travellers among Mountains and Streams and Snow-Covered Scene and Cold Forest.In discussion of the theories,this paper pays respect to the historical materials and documentary records of painting theories and makes objective and errorless citations.In addition,by interpreting the expressive traits and aesthetic significance of Fan Kuan through image analysis method and by appreciating the works of later generations that have been influenced by the artistic style of Fan Kuan,this paper also tries to explore the author's own painting characteristics and the author will continue to seek the most suitable painting style in future practices. |
