Mulan has been widely discussed by the literati and scholars since Mulan walking out of the Ballad of Mulan,the folk song of Northern Wei.And Disney's popular animated film Mulan has made Mulan become a cultural symbol connecting China with the world.It is worth pondering and studying that what kind of deduction and construction Mulan,a literary image with a history of more than a thousand years,has undergone in a different time,space and dimension.The thesis selects the representative text about Mulan and uses the thematology,the imagology and the variation theory of comparative literature and other research methods,based on the text analysis,to analyze the cultural development of Mulan image from the prospective of vertical and historical in different background;to compare the new connotation of Mulan image in the different cultural contexts from the prospective of horizontal and parallel.The thesis has six parts:The first part is the introduction,which mainly presents the current research situation at home and abroad of Mulan image,the research significance,and then points out the research priority,approach and innovation.The second part is to analyze the spread and deduction of Mulan image in the Chinese ancient text of Mulan.First of all,the paper is based on the Ballad of Mulan,the folk song of Northern Wei,the first text of Mulan existing in the world,to analyze the original image of Mulan.Then,study how the scholars in the Tang Dynasty,Song and Yuan Dynasties,Ming and Qing Dynasties describe Mulan image,and reveal the evolution from “human being” to “god”.The third part discusses the deduction and recreation of Mulan image in the Chinese modern text of Mulan.This part divides the modern text of Mulan into three parts,that is the text of Mulan in wartime,the text of Mulan in the new period and the picture book of Mulan in the new century,which reveals the different connotations of Mulan image in the works of different periods and different genres,and shows the path of the image returning from “god” to “human being” in the modern society.The fourth part analyzes the subversion and reconstruction of Mulan image in the American text of Mulan.Take The Woman Warrior as an example,writing by Maxine Hong Kingston,a Chinese American writer,the American picture book of Mulan,and Disney's animated film Mulan as the representative texts to study the transformation of Mulan image in the Western culture.The fifth part mainly analyzes the similarities and differences of the theme of“loyalty” and “filial piety” in the Mulan text and the female dilemma faced by Mulan in the different times and cultures,and discusses the variation of Mulan image occurred in the process of the time and space displacement,and reveals gender dilemma that Mulan and modern women represented by Mulan cannot get rid of up to now.The sixth part is the conclusion,further summarizing the viewpoints of the thesis,and clarifying the cultural value and practical significance of Mulan image.
