Real Illusion—a Study On The Narrative Characteristics Of Pseudo-documentaries

In recent years,with the successful commercial operation of "mockumentary" in horror and thriller films,this new type of film has attracted more and more attention and heated discussion in the film industry.This paper attempts to make an in-depth analysis of several pseudo-documentaries with typical characteristics and high popularity,combing and summarizing the concept and style characteristics of pseudo-documentaries combined with my graduation work "My Confession",and pointing out the value and shortcomings of this type of films.This paper is divided into four parts.The first part defines the concept of "mockumentary" and analyses the differences between the two types of films,briefly describes the development of mockumentary,and reveals the deep reasons for the emergence of mockumentary.The second part is mainly about the analysis of the text of the mockumentary film,and summarizes its story strategy of the essence of the plot film,including the selection of genre and the plot structure commonly used;the two genres of news documentary and video blog are suitable for displaying different story themes,the former reflects the real life phenomenon is more macro,the latter is more delicate and private;There are subtle stylistic variations in the plot structure of Style.From time to time,in the sequential time structure,there are flashbacks,flashbacks and short multi-viewpoint synchronic narratives,and sometimes open endings.The third part is mainly about the analysis of the audio-visual language of the mockumentary film,which will deliberately use skills in the preparation,mid-shooting and post-production because of its strong pursuit of the "reality" and "presence" of the image;for example,unconventional perspective and viewpoint,cross-axis lens,limited visual field of light effect,incomplete composition,incoherent editing and post-production.Less or no use of late music,extensive use of voiceover,enhance the sound effect,etc.The fourth part mainly summarizes and analyses the value and shortcomings of fake documentaries,and puts forward the future prospects for such types of films.In each part of the writing,I will take my graduation work "My Confession" as an example to analyze and narrate the unique story strategy and audio-visual characteristics of the mockumentary.
