As we all know, people seem to be able to react consistently to things that originate in certain countries without experiencing them personally. For example, people may prefer French cuisine to Austrian champagne,Italian rather than Finnish fashion. This cognitive and emotional process, which is generated and formed through direct experience or indirect exposure through education or media,is called National stereotype. It essentially reflects the recognition, preference and support of the outside group for a country's national ability or quality. The activation of the national stereotype has a profound impact on the subsequent subject's emotional or behavioral reaction tendency. On the basis of previous studies on stereotypes at home and abroad, this study explores the activation effect and cognitive processing characteristics of national stereotypes, including cognitive neuroprocessing characteristics, from the behavioral response and electrophysiology level.Taking the United States as an example,it explores the cognitive dimensions perceived by a country as an entity,so as to explore the reasons for the differences, with a view to enabling it to achieve better results. It can provide some reference for the follow-up study of national stereotypes. The study is divided into three parts: 1.Using the priming paradigm, using the name "China" / "America" as the priming word, and the characteristic words describing the national stereotype as the target stimulus, the activation effect of national stereotype is explored from the behavioral and neurological levels through the classificationconfirmation task;2.Using the two priming modes of suprathreshold and subthreshold, the vocabulary is adopted.By establishing the relationship between the three kinds of priming and the different degree of target words, this paper explores the internal processing characteristics of the activation of national stereotypes from both implicit and explicit aspects, aiming at investigating whether the activation of national stereotypes is an automatic unconscious process;in study 3,we learned about the activation of national stereotypes as an entity through questionnaires, taking the United States as an example. How do external perceptual groups perceive a country? This paper examines the cognitive dimension of a country from the practical level, and finds that:(1)As for the activation of national stereotypes, the processing of national stereotypes is easier under the condition of matching information with national stereotypes, while the processing will be suppressed under the condition of mismatching national stereotypes.Meanwhile, the N400 wave amplitude representing the semantic initiation has the same trend, which proves that national stereotypes do have activation effect.(2)In terms of the processing characteristics of national stereotypes, the processing of national stereotypes on behavior regardless of the threshold is always the fastest and there is no significant difference between inconsistencies and non-words under the same conditions;on ERP,the amplitude of N400 is the smallest under the threshold condition, and there is no significant difference between inconsistencies and non-words conditions, while there is no significant difference under the threshold condition, there is no significant difference between inconsistencies and non-words conditions. The conclusion which differs from the behavior can be regarded as the unique characteristic of the national stereotype: that is,the national stereotype is not as solidified as gender and race,to a certain extent,it can be shaped and changed, and the processing of the national stereotype is a semi-automatic mechanism.(3)Taking the United States as an example,in the study of the difference of people's perception dimension as an entity state,we took contemporary college students as subjects and investigated this problem. The results showed that: in the entity country with the United States as an example, college students' perception of it is mainly biased towards ability and warmth, and their attitude is mainly admiration.Positive emotions. The difference between the previous research results based on negative evaluation shows that national strength not only brings national self-confidence,but also reduces the national insecurity. The positive evaluation of the sample groups in China highlights the national essence of seeking harmonious development rooted in the national culture of harmony.
