The Research On The Dress Folklore In "Women's Magazine"

Founded in 1915,Ladies’ Journal was the oldest women’s magazine during the Republic of China.Scholars’ research on Ladies’ Journal mainly focused on its history and sociology,including the purpose,education,career,female image and views on love and marriage.In recent years,there have also been studies on clothing,which mainly focused on clothing design,clothing aesthetics or a certain type of clothing.However,there are few researches which systematically classify the clothing involved,and relate clothing to folk customs.This paper makes a comprehensive classification of the literature of costume folklore(including pictures and words)published in Ladies’ Journal.On this basis,an in-depth analysis is carried out in the terms of the relevant works and pictures,attempting to study the clothing in Women’s Magazine from the perspective of folklore.This paper includes the following parts:In the introduction,the research object is costume folklore in Ladies’ Journal.This part tries to comb through the literature related to costume folklore in Ladies’ Journal and illustrates the significance and methods of the research.In Chapter one,a general classification of costume folklore in Ladies’ Journal is made,which is classified into clothing folklore,ornaments folklore and decoration folklore.Among them,the clothing folklore can be divided into main clothing,head clothing and foot clothing.The ornaments folklore is mainly studied from the aspects of jewelry,handkerchief and glasses and other small items.The decoration folklore is researched from the aspects of hairdo and corset.In Chapter two,a specific analysis of the characteristics of clothing collocation is made according to different groups and occasions.In this paper,three most common types of group costumes in Ladies’ Journal are selected for analysis,namely,unmarried students’ costumes,married young couples’ costumes,and fashionable group costumes in the forefront of fashion.This chapter expounds the characteristics and dressings of different groups.In terms of the clothing in different occasions,the wedding,sports and labor occasions which are seen many times in Ladies’ Journal are selected to analyze the characteristics of people’s clothing collocation in different occasions.In Chapter three,this part discusses the inheritance and development of costume custom in Ladies’ Journal,which is mainly expounded from three aspects: the dressgarments of the upper and lower part body,the robe and foot clothing.In the Conclusion,this part analyzes the correlation between women’s ideological emancipation and Ladies’ Journal during the period of the Republic of China,the influence of women’s liberation on the costume folklore in Ladies’ Journal,and the characteristics of costume folklore in Ladies’ Journal.
