This is a report of the English-Chinese consecutive interpreting simulation practice of “Apple CEO Tim Cook's speech at the graduation ceremony at Duke University in 2018”.This report first describes the problems that interpreters often encounter during the practice of English-Chinese consecutive interpreting simulations, and then analyzes the reasons and puts forward some corresponding strategies.By studying the recordings, texts and notes of the consecutive interpreting, the writer makes a self-assessment,and finds that the main problems focus on three aspects: listening comprehension, the influences of the source language expressions in the interpretation process, and the inappropriate language output. The writer discusses the causes of problems through analyzing some cases and explores the strategies under the guidance of the interpretive theory, including strengthening listening comprehension, dealing with fuzzy language and deverbalization. This practice of consecutive interpreting can provide some referential experience and methods for future interpreting assignments, and improve the quality of interpreting versions.Meanwhile,it can also provide some practical references for the self-training of student interpreters.
