The Application Of Database Thinking In Artistic Creation

In this era of rapid variation today,the media affects the way of viewing the world and self-understanding of the human.The database as an important form of new media has become the center of Computer Age today.The database as the culture form has the great significance.The thinking activity of the human is essential during knowing the world and transforming the world.We communicate with each other through the computer interface and database everyday,and the way of acquiring information affects our way and habit of thinking.While the way of thinking will certainly impact the artistic creation.Therefore,the author proposes the concept of database thinking,and analyzes its specific applications in artistic creation as well as new aesthetic significance and inspiration of works created by database thinking.This paper includes three chapters,the first chapter reviews briefly the history,development stages and characteristics of database.The database has the important cultural and application status today.The database is an important form of new media.This paper analyzes the characteristics of database through quoting five features of new media of Lev Manovich to propose the concept of database thinking;the second chapter analyzes a large number of cases of works,straightens the new possibility brought to artistic creation by the creation way of database thinking,and puts forward the important role of this way on artistic expression.The third chapter presents that the art works under the database thinking have aesthetic characteristics of openness,and the database thinking plays an important role on construction of openness.And it also analyzes the specific performances of openness:infinite possibility of narration and participatory aesthetics.The creation way of database thinking reflects the contemporaneity,today we should discuss and solve the most essential and most important problem faced by the human in the contemporary way.
