With the comprehensive development of the new curriculum reform,class participation has become an important appeal for teaching process in the new curriculum improvement process.Only when students actively participate in the class teaching process can they truly reflect their dominant position in learning.However,in actual teaching,the current situation of student participation in the class is not ideal.As an important part of basic education,elementary school is an important stage for students to form good study habits.English courses with instrumental and humanities will also lay a solid foundation for students' lifelong development.Based on the principle of combining quantitative and qualitative research,this study is based on 450 senior students and 6 English teachers in a primary school in J City,Shandong Province,the questionnaire survey method,interview method and class observation were used to conduct in-depth research on the participation of senior elementary school students in English class,understand the current situation of behavioral participation,cognitive participation and emotional participation in the English class and puts forward effective suggestions for improving the efficiency of English classroom teaching.The full text consists of five parts.The first part is the introduction,which mainly explains the background of the problem,the significance of the research and the research status at home and abroad.The second part is the theoretical basis and core concept definition of the research.The third part is the research design,introducing research questions,research ideas,basic research objects,specific research methods and design of research tools,including the development and distribution of questionnaires,the design and implementation of interview outlines.The fourth part is the investigation of the status quo of English class participation in upper primary school students,including data analysis and interview analysis.The fifth part is the research findings and suggestions,the overall research results are summarized,and reasonable suggestions are made from teachers,parents and students.Research conclusions:(1)English class participation in upper primary school students is more focused on behavioral participation and emotional participation;(2)Gender,grade,parental education,seating and grades all affect students' English class participation;(3)English class cognitive participation has a significant impact on behavioral participation and emotional participation;(4)Primary school English teachers do not fully understand the concept of “class participation”;(5)The lack of initiative in the English class in the upper primary school students.For the problems presented in the research,the following suggestions are proposed:(1)Teachers strengthen theoretical studyand promote their professional development;(2)Teachers teach learning strategies to improve English class participation;(3)Teachers should pay attention to the cultivation of students' questioning ability;(4)Actively participate in English classes through family education;(5)Avoid the negative impact of tutoring classes on student participation in English class;(6)Students enhance self-efficacy and actively participate in the English class.
