Mind Mapping,proposed by Tony Buzan in the United Kingdom in the 1960 s,is an effective tool for the expression of radioactive thinking.Mind Mapping is first used to solve the problem of taking notes,and has been applied in various fields.And Mind Mapping provides a positive thinking tool for human beings,which can tap the greatest thinking potential of human beings.Since the 21 st century,Mind Mapping has been gradually introduced into the field of English teaching research in China.However,most of them are related to the teaching of English reading and English vocabulary,and the studies of Mind Mapping in the teaching of English writing are rare.Similarly,in the teaching of English writing,the influence of composition genre on writing teaching is rarely noticed.Letter is a significant tool for interpersonal communication.The teaching of English letter writing can promote the practicability of teaching.At the same time,English letter is one of the basic English writing forms,which must be mastered by senior high school students.The Ordinary High School English Curriculum Standard,has been formulated by the Ministry of Education in 2017,which puts forward higher requirements for English writing competence of students.However,the present situation of English letter writing teaching in senior high school is not very optimistic.How to improve students' letter writing level has become the most difficult problem for English teachers.The subjects of this study are 106 students from two classes of senior one.The experimental class adopts the teaching mode of Mind Mapping in letter writing,while the control class adopts the traditional English teaching mode.The questionnaires,the tests and the case analysis are used in the experiment.This thesis focuses on the following three questions.Firstly,can Mind Mapping change senior high school students' attitudes towards English letter writing and improve their interest in English writing? Secondly,can Mind Mapping improve senior high school students' English letter writing performance and level? Thirdly,can Mind Mapping increase the level of senior high school students' English letter writing in the number of conjunctions,vocabulary,sentence,content and structure?Through two-month experiment,the data of the questionnaires,the tests and the case analysis is sorted out and analyzed,and the following conclusions are drawn: firstly,the application of Mind Mapping can improve students' English letter writing interest and self-confidence;secondly,the application of Mind Mapping can improve the overall level of students' English letter writing;thirdly,the application of Mind Mapping can increase the level of senior high school students' English letter writing in the number of conjunctions,vocabulary,sentence,content and structure.Based on the above findings and the present study,it is suggested that Mind Mapping should be advocated in the teaching of English letter writing.Also,in the teaching practice,teachers should pay attention and make effective use of English textbooks,also give full play to students' innovative thinking and attach importance to development of students' thinking and intelligence.
