A Study On Polish College Students' Chinese Learning Motivation

Learning Mandarin becomes more popular.Polish universities,Confucius Institutes and private language schools make two observations;that every year more students enroll to study Mandarin;and a lot of students give up at some point.Polish students struggle with learning motivation have not yet been described nor investigated.In this paper I am going to discuss problems of Polish students learning Chinese.I describe major and minor factors that directly influence learner 's motivation.Analysis of questionnaires tells us,that despite relatively strong inner motivation,which among scholars is considered very important factor,majority of Polish students stops learning Chinese when they pass HSK5.There are many reasons behind this problem.They do not pursue HSK6 nor any other Mandarin certificates.According to responses,the crucial factor for reaching the highest level,seems to be studying in China,yet 33%of participants have no desire to study in China.We as teachers should encourage them more,show them amazing opportunities that studying in China may give.We should popularize not only Hanban 's scholarship,but government scholarship as well.While Confucius Institute Scholarship offers great opportunities for future teachers,government programs offer variety of majors.
