In this article,chamberlains refer to the groups including officials serving the emperor called lang,yezhe,shizhong,zhongchangshi,jishizhong,hanghuangdizhe in handed-down documents or the Bamboo Slips.This article discusses three points:the space structure of Weiyang Palace,Chamberlains bureaucracy built on the space structure and working of inner court affected by Chamberlains bureaucracy in Western Han Dynasty.This article draws the conclusion as following:the anterior hall,xuanshi hall and winshi hall called chaosheng was axis of central Weiyang Palace where emperors lived and handled the government affairs.Some offices of chamberlains were in the halls in the palace.Langzhongling leaded langs and huazheling leaded eunuchs in those offices.The hall where emperors lived was called sheng.Huangmenling leaded eunuchs in sheng and ruled offices in yutang hall and huashi hall.Langzhongs guarded gates of halls.Langzhongqi was not langzhong.The office of zhonglangs was in front of the door of shen.three departments,zuocao,youcao and wuguancao,were in this office.Yezhe worked in zuocao,and changshishilang belonged to youcao.Huangmenlang worked in the office ruled huangmenling.In Western Han Dynasty,shangshu was in shen.Zhulies would get different titles if they was divided into different offices.Zuocao and youcao zhulies went through the papers from shangshu and put forward proposals to the emperor with boshis,dafus,yilangs who learned Confucianism.Zhuli who leaded the shangshu would get the title sanqi.The officers who leaded shangshu or went through the papers from shangshu and put forward proposals to the emperor was zhongchaochen.
