The opera "Tanxiangxing" is a four-acting opera based on a novel with the same name, written by Mo Yan,a famous writer. It is a musical piece that expresses national content in the form of Western art. This work is characterised by its material, using the regional drama element "Maoqiang";in the opening and between the time of the performance, the story is connected and paved through the form of Shandong Qinshu, and the whole work is run through by original music. In the technique, the creation and development of Western composing techniques are used.In particular, the use of the orchestration techniques also includes folk instruments such as bangu and suona, which gives the work a distinct national character, cleverly combining opera,an western art form, with national elements of China. Therefore, this is not only the collision between the two art forms--music and novel, opera and Maoqiang, but also is the collision between elegance and popular,as well as the collision and integration of the Western and Eastern culture. This article will use the orchestration technique as the starting point.By analyzing the characteristics and application of the orchestration technique in the opera "Tanxiangxing",it shows the concrete manifestation of the Western orchestration technique, and find some hints that may exist in opera and folk art,in the hope of "using ancient art at modern time, and using Western art in Chinese work".
