Vocabulary learning,as one of the indispensable activities of language learning,plays a vital role in language learning.Current study indicates that continuation task can enhance the effectiveness on second language vocabulary learning.However,the experimental study of effectiveness of continuation task on second language vocabulary learning is still limited.The purpose of the study was to explore the effectiveness of continuation task on second language vocabulary learning of senior high school students from three aspects of form,meaning and usage.In this study,a total of 120 freshmen of a senior high school in Jining were selected as the research subjects.The experimental methods and interviews were adopted.The subjects were averagely divided into three different groups.In the first group,the target words in the intensive continuation group(English)were not only underlined,but also with part of speech and English interpretation.In the second group,the target words of the intensive continuation group(Chinese)were not only underlined,but also with part of speech and Chinese interpretation.In the third group,the target words of the simple continuation group were not underlined and were not accompanied by part of speech and interpretation.This study aimed to answer three research questions:(1)What is the immediate effect of the simple continuation,the intensive continuation(English)and the intensive continuation(Chinese)on second language vocabulary learning?What is the difference?(2)What is the delayed effect of the simple continuation,the intensive continuation(English)and the intensive continuation(Chinese)on second language vocabulary learning? What is the difference?(3)What attitude do students hold in continuation task on second language vocabulary learning?The data are statistically analyzed by the use of One-way ANOVA in SPSS21.0 software.Together with the results of the interview,the major findings of the study are as follows:(1)In the immediate effects,combined with multiple comparison results and mean scores,the intensive continuation group(English)had the significant learning effect in terms of form,meaning and usage,followed by the intensive continuation group(Chinese),and finally it was the simple continuation group.(2)In the delayed effects,combined with multiple comparison results and mean scores,the intensive continuation group(English)had the significant learning effect in terms of form,meaning and usage,followed by the intensive continuation group(Chinese),and finally it was the simple continuation group.(3)In the interview results,most of the participants insisted that continuation task was a challenging and interesting task,which can promote participants' learning of target words.This study explored the impact of continuation task on second language vocabulary learning,providing useful insights into improving the quality of English writing and the efficiency of English vocabulary learning in high school.Meanwhile,the study hopes to lay an empirical foundation for further research in this field.
