Tim Burton is a director with a personality belongs to the Hollywood.Since he became a director,he has stably and continuously released nearly 30 films and won a lot of prize.His films which have their own styles,are between live action and animations.These films are the epitome of his personal experiences,feelings and tastes.This paper takes the source of visual images in Tim Burton's animated films as the research objects.This paper holds that the ideas in Tim Burton's animated films originate from his early visual experience and visual accumulation,which are the product of visual culture.These visual cultures include graphic images such as picture books and illustrations;optical images such as movies,television and photography;memories of childhood;and psychological images generated by literary works such as poetry and novels.The main content of this paper is from Chapter 2 to Chapter 4.Chapter 2 introduces Tim Burton's early experiences,including family environment,education and training.Chapter 3 attempts to analyze the ideas of Tim Burton's animated films from four aspects:graphic image,optical image,spiritual illusion and literary image.Chapter 4 takes Tim Burton as an example to discuss how does the environment makes artists.But the key question that an artist should think about is how to transcend traditions and customs,and most importantly,how to express his own personality.It is the different styles of artists and their works that make art develop forward.This paper attempts to make people clearly see the learning process of this talented director through a case study of Tim Burton.The author hopes that this study can provide some inspiration for animation and movies,especially on the diversity of themes and styles.
