| Stephen King is a famous American horror writer with large reading groups.His fame and popularity made Maine state often appearing in his novels,be a "terrible state" in the eyes of Americans.In the creation of horror novels,the construction of space is very important.In King’s novels,space plays a more important role than time.Space is not only as the scene to carry the occurrence and development of the story,but also as a part of the narrative process,becoming a part of the novel.King combines the traditional terrorist elements with the real social problems while weakens the uses of the traditional gothic style in America’s horror fiction.His creations present the style of the space,promoting the development of the story as well as bringing the psychological distance of readers closer.He successfully creates the style of the horror world named "Stephen king’s".This paper tries to analyze and discuss the spatial narrative art of Stephen king’s novels by taking the spatial narrative theory of Gabriel Zolen and other space scholars as the guidance and combining with Lefebvre’s social space theory.The text is divided into three chapters: the topographic space,social space and text space in the narrative of King’s novels.Through various analyses,this paper discusses the spatial forms and spatial narrative techniques presented in the works,from which we can feel the combination of King’s horror novels and daily social life as well as the care for the social reality of the United States.On the one hand,the topography space gives birth to the inspiration of King’s novels;on the other hand,it plays an important role in the creation of a horrible atmosphere and the promotion of story plots.The combination with daily social life also narrows the psychological distance of readers and brings strong horrors to readers by his novels.The representation space,spatial representation and spatial practice in the social space not only make use of the horror elements implied in the American cultural tradition to create the atmosphere of the space scene,but also present King’s thinking and anxiety about the American society.In the text space,King’s narrative perspective,spatial juxtaposition and other narrative techniques play a very important role in controlling the rhythm,creating the atmosphere of his horror novels,making his works more three-dimensional and spatial.The last part concludes with a summary of the characteristics of King’s novels and the value of the study of his spatial narration,so as to enrich the understanding of Stephen King’s novels from the perspective of spatial narration. |
