The development of secondary vocational education is an important basis for popularizing high school education and building vocational education system of Chinese characteristics.The objective of English curriculum in secondary vocational schools is to help students master certain basic English knowledge and skills in order to meet the needs of the international labor market and to cultivate high-quality workers and technical talents qualified for production,manufacturing,logistics,service and so on.Learning psychology plays an important role in the process of English learning,especially learning interest,learning motivation and learning attitudes.The three psychological factors now receive the extensive concern of the academia.This research investigated 300 first-year students in five secondary vocational schools in Wanzhou by means of the questionnaire and interview with the aim of analyzing their English learning psychology and its influencing factors.The questionnaire was conducted to study the English psychology of secondary vocational school students and the influencing factors such as students' English learning behaviors,English textbooks and English teachers' teaching.As a supplement to the questionnaire survey,20 students were interviewed randomly to have further information about their views on English learning as well as the impact of English textbooks,English teachers' teaching and schools on their English learning psychology.The research finds that vocational school students generally lack interest,motivation and hold a negative attitude towards it.The influencing factors include: students' learning status,teachers' teaching situation,the adaptability of textbooks,the importance schools give to English.The students have weak English foundation,low self-efficacy and unclear learning goals.The teaching materials chosen by English teachers are not practical,their teaching methods are lack of pertinence,and the teaching evaluation is not diversified enough.The content of English textbooks is arranged unreasonably and the tasks in the books are designed inflexibly.The English curriculum setting of the schools is irrational.The schools do not launch abundant of extracurricular activities or provide proper hardware facilities.Based on the principle of developing positive factors and overcoming negative factors,this research puts forward some suggestions to improve English learning psychology of secondary vocational school students from three aspects.Schools should pay more attention to English.Teachers should improve the pertinence of teaching.Students themselves should change their concepts and behaviors actively.Through the efforts of the three aspects,students' learning interest can be enhanced,their learning motivation can be cultivated and their learning attitudes can be changed.As a result,their English learning can be improved.
