John Berger was a famous British art critic in the 20 th century.Starting from the development of visual aesthetics in the west, this paper studies the ideological criticism of John Berger and discusses the ideological deconstruction of "seeing" in western culture by focusing on the relevant issues of social and cultural ideology in the west. The paper is divided into four chapters: The first chapter discusses the historical appearance of Berger's vision theory by combing the traditional western visual aesthetics. The second chapter discusses how Berger explores the class ideology behind "identity" through seeing through the stereotyping and naturalization of visual images. The third chapter discusses how Berger deconstructs the gender ideology behind the " obsequiousness" gender image through seeing through the "gaze" in the view of gender seeing. In the fourth chapter, through the "symbol consumption" of advertisement, this paper probes into how Berger can deconstruct the consumption ideology behind the advertising aesthetics of creating false demand by seeing.Through the study of John Berger's ideological criticism, the paper points out that the value of Berger's visual aesthetics lies in driving the audience to break through the power ideology, clarifying the aesthetic illusion of various cultural images, and opening a new possibility of the way of seeing.
