Daphne du Maurier is an outstanding British author who is famous for romantic and sensation novels in the 20 th century,with representative works like Rebecca,My cousin Rachel and The scapegoat,etc.The most valuable feature of her literary creation is androgyny.The exordium is divided into three parts,mainly elucidating the research actuality in this field,theoretical definition,as well as the priority,difficulty and innovation of the research,this paper mainly studies the historical origin and basic connotation of Androgyny theory,and systematically explains the basic connotation of Woolf’s androgyny theory.The androgyny theory is mainly originated from the androgyny myth and thought in the west,of which the basic connotation is the androgyny of personality and harmony between male and female.The first chapter mainly focuses on the analysis of the causes of Daphne du Maurier’s androgynous view of gender.Through collecting materials and reading her autobiography,the author concludes that the causes of the her androgynous view of gender are related to not only her own life experience and education,but also the background information of the society.The second chapter mainly discusses the literary presentation of androgyny theory in Daphne du Maurier’s works.The androgyny characteristics of men and women in her works are mainly reflected by their dressing style,sexual orientation and mode of thinking.The last chapter explains the value of androgyny theory,which breaks down the gender binary opposition and constructs modern social ethics.The theory of androgyny plays a vital role in both literature and human ethics.Its role in promoting the harmony for both genders is irreplaceable and even in the development of human society.
