What Is Literature——A Study Of Natsume Soseki's "On Literature"

Natsume S?seki,as a modern intellectual in the collision and integration of east and west,denied the concept of "literature" under the establishment of west-tropism with his profound sinology foundation and Japanese national cultural connotation,and reexamined the question of "what is literature" with his unique thinking different from that of other contemporary literary theorists.Natsume S?seki combined the Chinese literature?the western theory and the native national culture of Japan to discuss "what literature is" from the three aspects that Theory of "(F + f)" ?Theory of Illusion and Theory of Evolution.Although these three topics are independent from each other,they are well connected with each other and mutually theoretical fulcrum.Natsume S?seki broke through the boundary of subjects and defined literature as "(F + f)" by scientific method.It served as Natsume S?seki's theoretical framework and permeated the whole text.Theory of Illusion is the essence of the whole text,both literary creation and literary appreciation are about the creation and interpretation of Illusion.The first two parts are the transverse anatomy of literature,while the theory of literary evolution explores the internal evolution of literature longitudinally.
