This paper is a re-study of the study of Xinjiang history by famous Japanese Oriental historian,Suguchi Toru(1916-2006).Although there are already four translations of Suguchi Toru's representative works translated into Chinese, and they have become must-have reference books for Chinese scholars in Xinjiang history. But so far,no matter the academic circles of our country or the Japanese academic circles,it is very rare to research the academic concept and study method of Saguchi Toru. Therefore, the author will elaborate on the study experience of Saguchi Toru in detail and subdivide his broad field of study.Because Saguchi Toru devoted more than half of his life to Xinjiang's history research, and made a lot of pioneering work in this field. Therefore, the author will systematically review the research work on modern history of Xinjiang, which contains most of its academic achievements, and summarize the characteristics of his academic studies at different academic stages. Finally, combined with his academic experience, and based on the analysis of his history study of Xinjiang.the author attempts to make a tentative definition of "Saguchi's Historiography" from four aspects:research theme, research methods, research perspective and source of historical materials. At the same time, taking "Saguchi's Historiography" as the origin,it briefly expounds the context of Japanese Oriental History, especially the study of Inner-Asian history. The first chapter is the summary of Saguchi Toru's academic career and the results of his academic study. After graduating from the Department of Oriental History at Imperial University in Tokyo in 1941,Saguchi Toru went to China for ethnological investigations during War of Resistance against Japan three times. This academic experience has profound implications for his philosophy and characteristics. From 1950 to 1982,Saguchi Toru taught at Toyama University and Kanazawa University.During this period,Saguchi Toru has developed a strong academic vitality.Every year, several masterpieces are published, which are active in Japanese and foreign academic circles. After 1982,Saguchi Toru mainly organized his academic achievements and tried new ways of writing.Saguchi Toru's academic career spans more than half a century and covers a wide range of fields with rich academic output. Here, the author divides his field of study into three areas:the study of the history of the Mongolian Empire in the 13th and 14th centuries, the history and ethnic studies in Central Asia in the 18th and 19th centuries, and the study of Chinese Muslims. This paper has an appendix on his academic achievements. The second chapter is divided into three sections to make a detailed re-study of Xinjiang social history research,Xinjiang national history research and Xinjiang Muslim research, which published at different times. The author will analyzes the characteristics of Saguchi Toru's study at each stage, and explores the connections and changes between his works,in order to clarify the diachronic changes in the concepts and methods of Saguchi Toru's study. The third chapter combines the previous analysis of Saguchi Toru's research results, from the research topics, research perspectives, research methods and historical sources to explain the connotation and characteristics of "Saguchi's Historiography",and briefly analyze his academic dynamics based on his academic experience. Finally, there is a brief review of the context of the study of Japanese Oriental History and the study of Inner-Asian historyhe history of Japan. This thesis is not intended to be a biography of Saguchi Toru, but to study the research of Xinjiang history of Saguchi Toru, and to re-examine his academic achievements. This article does not make too many comments on the academic status of Saguchi Toru.I believe that readers will make an objective evaluation of the significance and value of his academic research, especially the modern history of Xinjiang, after learning more about his academic career and research results.
