Research On The Artistic Style Of Quanshan Petroleum Painting

Quan Shanshi is one of the first generation oil painters cultivated by new China.In his oil painting career which started from 1954 when he went to study in the Soviet Union,to his return to China to create many large-scale oil paintings with historical themes,and to his experience in sketching in Xinjiang,Quan Shanshi kept exploring the true meaning of oil painting,innovating and discovering his own oil painting language,and making indelible contributions to the "national style" of Chinese oil painting in his artistic career.He once said that he would create oil paintings that belong to the Chinese culture.He stressed the importance of mastering the basic rules of oil painting,at the same time,he pointed out that oil painters need to absorb the national traditional culture and art,and make it organic combination,rather than simple addition?The pure and rich colors of Quan Shanshi's oil paintings,the perfect combination of solid modeling and decoration,as well as the music-style brush rhyme in his oil paintings,all greatly stimulate viewers' senses.The colors and shapes in his paintings stimulate the visual impulses of the viewers while the strokes and textures arouse the tactile impulses of the viewer,and all these characteristics reflect Quan Shanshi's exploration of the ontological language of oil painting and his innovation of "national style".This paper systematically discusses the characteristics of Quan Shanshi's oil paintings from four aspects:the characteristics of the language,the development and change of the artistic style,the background for the formation of the artistic sty land the cultural value of the oil paintingse.The first part of the paper takes Quan Shanshi's works as the starting point and discusses the ontological language features and innovation of Quan Shanshi's oil paintings based on the three themes of his oil paintings,namely historical painting,portrait painting and landscape painting.The second part discusses the formation and development of Quan Shanshi's oil painting language from the three main stages of his study and research,including his study in Russia,his investigation in Dunhuang and his sketching in Xinjiang.The third part of the paper discusses the background for Quan Shanshi's oil paintings from three aspects,including social and environmental factors,natural and geographical factors,as well as Quan Shanshi's own artistic ideas and thoughts.The fourth part objectively discusses the artistic value of the style of Quan Shanshi's oil paintings and its significance for today's artistic development based on his contribution to the education of oil painting and the enlightenment of the "returning" to the ontological language of oil painting.Quan Shanshi,as one of the outstanding representatives of oil painters in China,keeps exploring on the artistic path and enriches the artistic language of oil painting.He emphasizes the exploration of the ontological language of oil painting and has created countless unforgettable works with the belief of developing authentic Chinese oil painting.At the "Quan Shanshi Xinjiang oil painting sketching exhibition symposium",Mr.Yang Chengyin said:"He made full use of the specialty of oil painting,but also has his own unique style".This is the underlying reason why Quan Shanshi's oil painting has the "flavor" and vitality of oil painting.His artistic practice has added a non-negligible brushstroke to Chinese oil painting.
