Eugenio Barba's third play originated in the 1960 s.Barba distinguishes the third drama from traditional institutionalized drama,avant-garde drama and experimental drama.By analyzing the characteristics of the third drama,this paper summarizes the main theories of Barba's third drama thought,including"actor-centered theory","energy theory" focusing on the convergence of actors' body and spirit"and"drama return ritual theory"opposing the commercialization and vulgarization of drama.Barba's third theatrical thought is based on the "actor-centered theory",which focuses on the power of the body and spirit of the actors in the theatre at the same time.At the same time,it contains such dramatic concepts as non-textualization,return of dramatic forms to groups,and concern about the direct emotional experience between actors and audiences,thus expressing the ideal of the return of drama to rituals.The first chapter of the thesis analyses and explains Barba's third drama and the third drama thought,and then analyses the background and forming process of the third drama thought.The second chapter of the thesis is to demonstrate the "actor-centered theory"."Actor-centered theory" is the core aspect of Barba's third dramatic thought.This chapter analyses Barba's attention to the actors in the theatre from the following aspects: the "pre-expressiveness" of paying attention to the physical feelings of the actors on the stage,the independence and automation of the actors' limbs and bodies,the performing skills and the actors' scripts.Chapter three studies the theory of "energy".Barba considers that "energy" is the power of the actor's body and spirit,and judges whether a dancer achieves the necessary condition of artistic stage presentation.This chapter will take Barba's energy theory as the research object,and analyze from three stages of the formation of "energy";two extreme phenomena of "energy" in the actor's body;and the significance of Barba's "energy" theory,and how "energy" becomes the carrier of transmitting actor's dramatic art.Chapter ? of the thesis studies the theory of drama returning to rituals.The thought of theatre returning to ceremony is the highest ideal of Barba's third theatre thought.This thought gets rid of the commercialization,vulgarization and interesting factors of modern drama,and returns drama to ritual.This chapter analyses the relationship between drama and ritual,and the concrete manifestation of the return ceremony of the third drama.
